Changes to dog licensing

Yes, recently, we have had some appalling acts of animal cruelty and the perpetrators got off very lightly, considering the gravity of their crimes. In one case, the abusers were photographed leaving the Court house, punching the air in victory! We also have vans going around various areas, lifting pets from gardens, and in one case last week, a house was burgled and the thief stole a much loved pet dog from the property. Houses are also being marked by men looking for dogs to use for fighting. There are many reasons why hundreds of dog owners are not happy with revealing our names, addresses and telephone numbers on a dog tag. I am not a lone voice. As a rule, over here, no one gives out these details to anyone, unless we are completely sure it is safe to do so. These things are happening in many areas here, affluent areas included. Our local Pet Shop, a reputable name, refuses to put names and addresses on dog tags. Years ago, my dogs had tags with these details included, but the criminal activity mentioned above did not exist then...we live in a very different world now.0

UK law re dog tags here0

My dog has all my details on his tag, as a responsible owner if he were ever to go missing I would actually like him to be returned.0

You carry lots of personal details around on your driving license, which could be lost or stolen like a dog may be. Just use a tag which isn't glaringly easy to read (try one of the ones that threads onto and sits flush with the collar, perhaps - or the sealed barrel kind) and look after the dog so he (and your info) doesn't get into the wrong hands. Replace the o ring on the tag for a stronger one, e.g. a keyring type o-ring, or use a cable tie to attach - much less likely to lose s tag then.0

We have our phone numbers and address on the collar tag. Its come in useful twice, once when dumbass dog lost the tag and another time when he lost the whole collar. Both times, some kind person has returned it, saving us the hassle of getting new ones.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

I can't see the point of having the chip number AND owners details.
If you have the chip number a call to the database will get you the owners details.
If you have the owners details why would you need the chip number?
If you did want the chip nu be then you scan the dog. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Probably because all dogs have to be chipped in Ireland.0 -
My dogs are all chipped and registered at the local vets/pet log etc. Their collar tags just give mobile no - and the information that he/she is neutered! This does mean that in the event that any of them were stolen for breeding purposes, they would be totally useless to any prospective breeder and would stand a better chance of being returned to us.
I know many people who not only have microchips in their much loved (and valued) dogs - but have ear tattoos as well. Ear tattoos cannot be removed.0 -
Ours has our mobile numbers on one side and family member's landline on the other. Any more information and the tag would be bigger than the dog!I can't add up.0

Mine says spayed/microchipped on one side and has my mobile number, door number and postcode on the other.0
