Some classic policies are strict. Over 25 years. Garaged at night and must have a main vehicle with full no claims.

Ive insured all sorts of vehicles for £100 or less under those terms.
V8 Range Rover, MGBGT, Mini;s etc etc....

Same here. My 25 year old Golf GTI was £95 for the annual policy but had those terms above.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Insurance companies can only go by statistics, and statistically young male (although they are no longer allowed to discriminate by gender) drivers have many more, and many more expensive, claims than the average. It is tough on the few sensible young drivers who do exist, but sadly many of them (young males) are testosterone fuelled inexperienced idiots driving cars that are much too powerful for them to handle safely. I drove like an idiot too when I was 18, but you couldn't go very fast in an 870 cc Morris Minor.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

What I found years ago was a rarer car was cheaper as they have less accidents (mad I know, stands to reason).
I had a quote on a supra twin turbo that was half the price of an M3 - both circa 300bhp and same value.

Not convinced this is too serious but a Z3 could quite likely not be that high to insure.

It's not that high powered, is lightweight, only has 2 seats (so you can only kill one passenger at a time), it's probably mostly driven by women (and will therefore follow their pattern of lower claims). The car itself isn't valuable.
  • Oh fab, well I've been driving for 6 months now and I'm 23. The lady on the phone said that the quote was not accurate and the annual premium for insuring the car is £1020 with key cover, roadside recovery and £300 voluntary excess.

If I put my partner (same age and we passed at the same time) on the policy however, it rises to approx £1500 as he has made claims on his previous insurance, has points on his license etc.

Sounds like a great deal then!

I for one am happy that you are able to drive your late grandfather's car and enjoy both the experience and the memories that it stimulates.

While I am not a Z3 driver, neither am I critical of those who do - happy motoring!

    Troll, holes, story? Surely not..

Im sure the OP will provide us with the name of the company that will insure them and us for a bargain price.

One of those dodgy ones working from a forwarded phone line from an empty lockup that will insure you for £200. But when you claim they ask why 56 year old priest from a remote island was driving around the city late at night with a car full of youngsters.
