Cheap quote for car insurance

Hi, I'm a 23-year-old young male driver and I passed my test 6 months ago.

I had an Astra as my first car for about 4/5 months with TESCO Bank Car Insurance and I sold that and tried to get my BMW Z3 1.9 on that insurance policy instead but the guy on the phone just laughed in my face (he actually did) and told me with my age and the vehicle type it is not possible - so bye-bye insurance policy, bye-bye NCB.

My aunty and uncle also laughed in my face too saying that it is completely uninsurable (This makes me more determined to prove people wrong). It really annoys me that car insurance companies are so stereotypical to put people into boxes and say 'no he cannot drive this sort of car' - I am a really safe driver and I always stick to the speed limit and I am really cautious as a driver, is it such a crime to not want to drive the bog standard Corsas, KAs or Puntos that all other people my age are driving? I want to drive nice car and I will do that no matter who laughs in my face.

Anyway, so long story short I found a ridiculously cheap quote from Confused and Money Supermarket (£1200 for the year) from GA Insurance. Should I go ahead and take out this policy? Do comparison sites sometimes get it wrong? If I call up to confirm the quote I'm worried they are also gonna laugh in my face. If I just go ahead and take it out will I be stopped by the police?

This is only £200 more than my Astra's policy. For the sort of car that it is it is very reasonable.

Needless to say we don't all drive like lunatics, why am I being punished for it!?

    Troll is troll, LOL

    <insert 4chann meme>

Nobody quite understands how the insewerance industry works but did you know that the biggest killer of 23yr old females is their boyfriends driving above & beyond their ability.

Whether you did or not is irrelevant, cos' Sebastion & Tarquin at the underwriters have statistical maps that show that you do.

What exactly are you asking us here?

Should you pay £1200 to insewer a hairdressers car?

Should you be driving around in a "look at me, LOOK AT ME" car when your brain is not yet fully formed?

Or, are you asking us whether life itself in general is fair?

No, I am asking whether I should query the cheap quote or just go for it immediately.

It's my grandfathers car, he died last year and gave me the Z3 in his will.
  • Sell the Z3, get a more sensible car?
Did you get that £1200 over the phone or on the internet?

Yes. Triple check the info has been transmitted to GA correctly.

    Eh?
  • I've just run a test quote through Confused & Moneysupermarket as a 23yr old with a BMW Z3 1.9 . . . .

Did you think the internets wouldn't do this?

Apart from the fact that Confused & Moneysupermarket are exactly the LAST places I would be looking for an insewerence quote.
  • No harm in confirming the quote, but check the details carefully, it might come with some astronomical excess or other nasty surprises not so obvious such as eye watering admin fees.

If its kosher enjoy your car, much nicer than the odd looking and cramped Z4, oh and ignore the weird comments from the envious.

You can insure any car for a price. If you were a lottery winner it wouldn't bother you. However in the real world for most people spending thouands on car insurance means savings have to be made elsewhere. House deposits, gadgets, holidays, nights out. Does it really matter which four wheeled metal box you are slowly driving around in?

Thank you, it is a car of sentimental value and I only dream of driving one, I will make it happen - why should insurers put me in a category and say I'm uninsurable - sad to day that's the insurance world isn't it - but if only you could see my black box results... ;)

Babbawah, I don't understand your messages. I have had fab quotes from Confused and Moneysupermarket and from reputable companies too, I disagree they are the first places I go to get car insurance.

Also, have you got a spelling checker?
  • Car is more than ten years old so eligible for classic car insurance - go to specialist classic and/or owners club type brokers - by phone not online - the only catch could be your age

Some classic policies are strict. Over 25 years. Garaged at night and must have a main vehicle with full no claims.

Ive insured all sorts of vehicles for £100 or less under those terms.
V8 Range Rover, MGBGT, Mini;s etc etc....
