What to do if someone lies about combined shipping in item description?

Hi, I bought three items off of the same seller because in the description of each item he states clearly that he will combine shipping on multiple orders.

After going through to checkout I get the option of requesting an invoice for all three, then I get a message saying he doesn't do combined shipping. After looking at his feedback others say that he lied about combined shipping.

Isn't the item description like a binding contract? Will ebay make him combine the shipping costs? He has that auto assistant thing on that messages me about paying. I have messaged him and he ignores me. He is a big seller with other 7000 feedback.

If I don't pay will that auto assistant thing eventually be looked at by a real person and do you think they will make him do what he says in his description? What are my options?

Thanks

You could contact Ebay and see if they are willing to cancel the three transactions for you. I think you will just have to pay and then leave appropriate feedback. There is not much else you can do.

If you do not pay then the seller will probably open an unpaid case. You will get a black mark (or possibly three as they are separate transactions) and this will make it difficult for you to bid on items where the seller has excluded people with unpaid marks on their account.

Paying, leaving negative feedback and low stars is all you can really do. However if they sell a lot of items then it will not have much impact other than hopefully warning others.

If by the 'auto thing' you mean an unpaid item dispute then no, no one will look at it and it will close against you in 4 days unless you pay , if that happens you get a strike and will also be prevented from leaving feedback.

Definitely phone eBay and complain, but if you get close to day 4 on the auto dispute then pay for each of the 3 things separately, do not send one payment.

If items arrive in 3 packages then leave appropriate feedback and also appropriate stars purely on the stars for communication. If however seller combines the three then I think you would be justified in hitting some of the other stars as well. The defect stars are item description and dispatch time and it is not unknown for sellers faced with a defect star to try and buy out of the defect by making amends later.

If you want to annoy the seller and don't already have any unpaid strikes then pay for one of the items and let the other two close against you. You still only get one strike but the one you've paid for allows you to leave feedback.

  • It sounds like a business seller yes? So just tell them you don't want the items. Simples!

  • Could be they have the same problem I do! I listed some items as BIN and will combine postage but it seems when someone buys more than one item theyre being forced to pay double postage. I don't have immediate payment selected so I don't know why I cant send them a revised invoice. At the moment im having to refund the difference in Paypal.
    Please help!!!

There has been a glitch in the ebay system for quite a few months now regarding requesting a combined p&p invoice when buying more than one item. As a buyer I've complained at various times to ebay about it & I know that some of the sellers I've dealt with regularly have also complained & are completely fed up with the system refusing to allow a buyer to request a combined invoice & stating quite incorrectly that seller has disallowed combined posting. This is losing some sellers business as people won't want to buy if they can't have combined p&p.

What I've been doing with quite a few of the sellers I buy regularly from is contacting them via the ask a question section on the auction page & telling them exactly what the items I wish to buy are & they then send me a paypal invoice for the items with the combined p&p amount.

The only other way around it seems to be paying the full amount & then hoping the seller will refund you any excess p&p paid. Either way, in most cases it's no longer as easy to buy multiple items from a single seller as it once was thanks to the way ebay have really screwed things up.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Just remember to check seller's feedback *before* you buy.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • I used ebay chat last night to resolve an issue. These advisors are normally very good so give them a try and ask them to look into your issue.

I have run into this glitch several times, have you tried messaging the seller asking them to send a combined invioce?
This has always worked for me , just quick Hi,. can you please send a combined invoice for multiple purchases as stated in your auctions.

You can try that, but eBay have taken it upon themselves in their obvious lack of abundant wisdom, to turn on *instant payment required* for numerous categories, which doesn't allow the buyer to buy more than one item at a time - and pay for them individually.
To be quite frank - it's ridiculous and wound up several of my customers.

Oh dear, i hadn`t run into that one so far.

You gotta love ebay, they keep changing stuff to make a better buying experience and fail at it so well.
