Hi, was wondering if someone can help.
My dd did an update on her iphone to iOS 8, and since then it will not work properly, not receiving calls or texts and the phone locking if you tried to access messages.

Anyway she followed some instructions online and tried to do a restore, this is where it has all gone wrong, she has forgotten her Apple ID password and the security question answers. Also the email she used has been deactivated by Microsoft so she can't access the email link.

Apple want £25 for telephone support, is it worth it? Will they be able to get her phone working.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thx

  • I am afraid if you cannot access the Apple ID you are 100% stuffed,

Apple have got very strict now on not unlocking/replacing/servicing devices that are ID locked.

Apple see it that the genuine owner should have access to those details and anyone without them could have found/stolen the phone.

As it is unless you can somehow remember the password or the answers to the security questions there is nothing they will do to help and paying for a support call is more money down the pan.

Try restoring through iTunes using a computer.

    Google for instructions.

Thanks for the replies, we did try through itunes but again it asks for passwords which she can't remember.

At the moment i'm trying to get mircosoft to reactivate her email account linked to the iphone.

i suppose like a lot of teenagers the email was set up solely for an apple account and never used again, thus being closed as inactive.
  • Does she have the receipt for the phone? I guess, if she can prove to Apple that she actually bought the phone, then they will be more helpful. Also, if she lives close to an Apple Store, then she can make an appointment at the genius bar and ask for help regarding this issue.

They cant even do anything if you have the receipt or proof of purchase, as you could have given it as a gift to someone and they are protecting their security,

if you go to an Apple Store Genius Bar the first thing they do is check on their system to see if the lock is in place, if it is they ask you to unlock it either on the phone if its working or on the icloud website if the phone is dead. If you cannot do it then the interaction ends there and then. So you would be wasting your time with a visit to an Apple Store.

With the introduction on the icloud lock they have just taken a 100% brickwall attitude if the customer does not have the password or recovery details.
