My bil made a comment on facebook about my hubby being a scrounger, because his my carer and how at least his hard work paid for his car. We have a motability car. due to me having stage 4 lung disease, ehlos danlos syndrome, with arthiritis and cfs. What is wrong with people.
Hi, i went from earning 1600 pounds a month in 2007/08, had upwards of 200 appointments a year and to live on 60/70 a week.
Took nearly 2 years to get DLA, refused help with mortgage, lost my house, in pain 24/7.
That must make me " a scrounger " too.
Who in their right mind would chose the above.0 -

People like that do my head in.
Yes I'd do that too. Make it very polite so that he has no excuse to argue with you.
Then delete him from your 'friends'.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I get comments from my step dad I would love to go back to work and feel guilty if I have a good day - well good hour as things can change in a heart beat - I tend just to say nothing as not worth it but it does make me feel bad. But on the positive side found out the treatment for precancer worked and at mo drs happy and just monitoring so at least one less worry on the long list of failings in this old bod. And had I not had my accident and developed m.e. the medics would not have found the pre- cancer so could have been a hell of alot worseI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

MSE Discussion is full of these terminally ignorant people.0

well i sent a long list of my illnesses to one sister in law as she had no idea and she sent a message back saying sorry your not ok. she was round mil the other day and mentioned car and mil told her it was my mobility car and that you can have any car in return for your allowance. as they all 4 of them seemed to take offence that i had a mercedes for free well its not free. I worked out over the 3 years it would cost nearly £11000. His not on my facebook friends list but my daughter is friends with him they forget she can see their nasty comments.0

Sensible people object to scroungers, but support people who genuinely need help.
This indeed but to add that often it's down to not knowing which bracket someone is in, not nastiness. We do judge, it's human nature, I've just helped an elderly person with a heavy wheelchair in which what appeared to be a severely disabled man into a shop with a small step. I judged that he was disabled on sight with no knowledge of that stranger. Am I wrong? No it's human instinct. I remember when I first took ill, a school yard mum asking how I was always in the yard these days. I replied I'm off sick. Her reply to my outwardly healthy self was that it's easy to be sick so often with full NHS pay, and how she has to work even if sick as gets no full sick pay.
I didn't take it personal, I didn't think she was stupid, ignorant, thick, disabled basher or anything negative. She just didn't know as I and most people are private in our struggles. Once my hair fell out and it became obvious I was battling cancer, she was upset at her comments and truly apologised.
If OP's family genuinely know and see the fact that she can't walk far, has physical limitations and make comments knowing the extent of her disability then they are in the minority IMO. I don't think society is as bad as portrayed and that on the whole are sensible just sometimes uninformed.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
Hey all. to me the worst offender is the DWP. When they tell you that the disability you have has all but disappeared when they refuse you a benefit that you have been receiving for the past 20 years. It makes you feel as though they consider you a scrounger.0

Fortunately not everyone is so ignorant. When I had a total knee replacement my OH pushed me around the supermarket in a wheelchair. Other than a few (joky) comments about him liking to push me around everyone I met was really helpful and friendly.0

I always wonder if those envious of all the "free cars" and "loadsadosh" we allegedly get (I wish lol), means they would like our disabilities full time?
Probably not......
To be honest, I don't get offended, in fact it always makes me laugh, because if they choose to spend their spare time festering and begrudging, then they will end up miserable, not me.
Best ignored.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

i was 'run over' today in Aldi's.
the culprit was in a mobi;it scooter, i didn't move into their path, they just misjudged the space.
so my plea to all scooter users is ... just because someone else is walking ... don't as,me they have no issues0
