May I suggest you have the required amount of smoke detectors (especially if you are renting)
The building standards changed last year and in a flat you may need a minimum of 2 x smoke PLUS one heat detector.
I would suggest you use a registered electrician, see SELECT website

We already have mains smoke detectors and have only been getting quotes from registered electricians.
To update anyway, we now have someone managing the refurbishment and her contractors have quoted about half of our previous quote.0
