tesco 24 month contract
Options
we are at the end of a 24 month contract with Tesco mobile ( 1 phone for me and one for my wife)- does anyone know what our options might be? for example are the phones ours to keep ? can we take the number elsewhere ? real numpties at this mobile stuff but interested in best value ? any advice gratefully received
Early retired in summer 2018 and loving it

Yes the phones yours and moving the number can be done if moving to a new networkIt's not just about the money0

you can move and phones are yours, deals cant seem to be matched so cheapDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

The only thing you are 'at the end of' is your minimum term. If you do nothing, then it rolls on as before until you explicitly cancel. The phones were yours from Day 1, but check as they may up helpfully have locked them to the initial network.0

You need to ask tesco for a 'PAC' which you then give to your new provider to swap the number over - only takes a couple of days. Be aware that if you request a PAC, you must use it within 30 days or your tesco contract will just continue.
if you just cancel with tesco, you'll lose your phone number unless you stay with them.
IIRC, Tesco use O2 network, so you could move to O2 or GiffGaff without worrying about unlocking. For me, 3 offer some good sim only deals if you're happy to keep your phone(s)
You could borrow (or order a free) sim from another network to see if your phone is already unlocked - many are already unlocked from new.0 -
Even if they are locked Tesco will unlock them free.

The phones are yours
You can now look for a new contract or a sim only contract which means you keep your phone and just pay for minutes etc(the price of your two year contract will have included the cost of your phone, so sim only contract should be cheaper)
If you call Trsco you will be offered a cheaper alternative to keep your phone and two possible prices- a monthly cost on a year contract sim only, or another price for a month at a time rolling contract (you are not tied in to a years contract this way)
If you do nothing, you will continue to pay the same price you pay now. This is unlikely to be the most cost effective option as your initial price was made taking into account the cost of buying the phone as well as the minutes etc
Hope this helps0
