Some good deals. Hit and miss with my local aldi, they dont always have items in. I also get newsletter. The base station is quite good I reckon. I would be tempted had I not already got 2 PC's!

Regarding wireless, my first card was internal pci. I do not recommend anyone buying them. I bought a quality asus one but not so good. Buying a USB one is much better. One I currently have is excellent. Its the belkin one. play.com selling it for just under a tenner delivered. Top recommendation!

Good price for that memory stick also. I bought the toshiba 2gig one from Aldi for £23.99 last year. Getting cheaper and bigger now.

Same here, especially with PCs. Sometimes they sell out on the first day, other times the same one is available for weeks.

I'm tempted by this one but I don't really need a new machine.

Stupid question..does the wifi thing come with a plastic cap, as shown in the pic?

I bought one but can't find the cap and can't really remember if it had one in the first place!

If it didn't come with one then I'll stop looking for it...

My dad (gadget freak extrordinaire) got one of the base units today - cracking deal for £399 and works beautifully big thumbs up to Aldi

Apparently they've got a good laptop on sale next week for £459, similar spec to base unit - dual core, 2gb DDR RAM, but 120gb HDD

I have managed to persuade him that he does not need a laptop (please bear in mind he is a 69 year old silver surfer who has every latest gadget under the sun!!)

What day does the Aldi comic come out ? This looks like what I'm looking for, I'm on holiday this month so I could pitch my tent on Aldi's car park to guarantee a decent place in the queue.

If he really wants one, I would be quite prepared to look after it for him. :rotfl:

Hi, I got 2 of the USB wireless adapters yesterday and both are up and running. Connectivity is good (they're for old laptops the kids use), definitely a good buy for £11!
  • Stamford,
Be careful with what you are buying. From your post, it appears that you have a simple connection between your desktop computer and the ADSL line socket. This means that your desktop is responsible for connecting and maintaining the connection to your broadband provider. The only way that another person can use that connection is if (1) your desktop is turned on, and (2) you enable something called "internet connection sharing" which is too complicated to cover properly in a post, and is frequently unreliable.
The alternative is for you to buy a wireless ADSL modem - this then connects direct to the ADSL line, and manages the boradband connection. You, and your son, can then connect to the wireless ADSL modem using your respective adapters. You can also use wired connections with most devices.
By way of example, goto www.dlink.co.uk and take a look at model number DSL-G624T. I'm not recommending this above any other device, it's an example of the sort of device you need. It will need configuring with your broadband user, password, and a few other settings, and I strongly recommend setting up wireless security to prevent the rest of the world using your broadband connection.
    I hope this helps, BBL.
