I've just started making rye sourdough. Once you have your starter it's really easy and doesn't need anything other than flour and water, a good mix with a spoon (or your hands). No kneading necessary which for me is good as I suffer from arthritis.

  • I cannot wait to see the end of this month. No disasters or anything it's just a horrible time of year and waiting 6 weeks til the next pay has been a nightmare. 2 more days to go and I'm still under budget but I'm fed up not being able to shop and I'm raring to go in February. Probably not a good thing really as when I feel like this I tend to overspend stocking up in the next month.

2 aldi vouchers to use in the week should help and I'm going to use some of the little vouchers as well. I dont always bother but the smoked haddock, foccacia and walnuts look good. The cupboards and freezer are not quite a bare a I thought they would be. I'm just trying to get rid of all the odds and sods. We've had quite a few odd dinners this week.

Toiletries have been bought this morning and I need to pick up some loo roll and potatoes for tomorrow. Planning a nsd tomorrow as I try not to venture on a Sunday unless I can't avoid it. Good luck everyone xx

  • Apart from me going to an astronomy evening tonight, weather permitting, none of us have to leave the house today. So, NSD (3 day streak) and, as we're having a good tidy, a clean house!

Today I almost drove 5 miles to buy half price at at Lidl but realised petrol to get there was too pricey :) So I went to the Mr T where I had to go to the optician anyway.

£6.15 on 1kg oats, YS onion hummus, YS mango and ginger cheese, YS gold top milk, YS noodles, YS casserole veg, crumpets, butter. So this evening I'm having a veg and noodle soup with an old pack of miso soup as the base, and rice pud with the packet of dried figs I found in the cupboard.

I also had a clearout of dried herbs. I never use them and had 8 jars!! So I have rearranged the spices which I use all the time so I can find them.

Spent £14.99 today in Morry's this included some bread, veg, sausage and a paper.
We had some cheese sauce, boiled potato and broccoli left over so I cut up an onion, some mushrooms and sliced the potatoes thinly, heated them up and had them with the cheese sauce. It was delicious and saved wasting a few things.
