The dead dog had a 'bag for life' on its head.

Shocking thing is that was 4 years ago. I think we must be due a new Christmas episode

The descant recorder hasn't got a good reputation, it's true.

Which is sad as when well played it can be beautiful. But most instruments are best with the added ongoing expense of lessons and dedication of practice.

  • As a big reader myself (but 35 not 8 lol) I would suggest

Voucher so she can buy more books for her e reader

A lovely big blanket or throw to cuddle up in (b and m have some good ones as do most of the supermarkets)

A desk lamp (the ones you can move/adjust)

Maybe something related to her favourite book? Google could be your friend here. Maybe a toy, print or something.

I love the big soft chair idea. I would then make up a reading gift basket- Fleece blanket, a couple of cushions, book voucher or evoucher, hot chocolate (if she drinks it), & big mug.

Primark has some lovely fleece blankets at the moment.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Knew you guys would come up trumps. Thank you.

Love the snuggly bean bag/reading gift basket idea. DD will be very happy with that. Will probably get a chair which doubles up as a foldaway bed too as she's going on about having sleepovers...

FWIW, she grew out of Disney Princesses a while ago, so Toronto idea would have not worked. But would have liked it myself :D

And she fed the rays in the Maldives aged 3 :o I really miss the Tesco clubcard scheme when it was worth collecting points. I actually had to pay proper cash for our holiday this year.

How about a Ukulele! I have one (lot older than 8 I know) but they are so much fun and doesn't take long to learn a simple tune.

I'd get her a bike if she hasnt already got one and some new clothes/shoes if needed.
Does she like jewellery? if so I'd go with some of that as well.Especially worth considering is those sets where you can make your own.
  • I would go for book vouchers or an e reader upgrade, or an experience voucher.

Ukeleles had a sudden surge in popularity a short while ago. But I must admit I prefer the recorder, even played badly, to the sound of a ukelele :p

The recorder should be banned and if anyones heard playing it then they should be sentenced to 10 years hard labour. Its even worse than Gary Barlow and thats saying something.
