am after a car charger and 2nd mains charger for my new iphone, and seen loads on an auction site for 1/10th of Apples prices, are they really as dangerous at they're made out to be?

    They can be.

If you want good and cheap, get a BlackBerry travel charger.

I've had a Belkin car charger for around 2 years. It works perfectly.

    Yes and no.

Reputable 2nd tier accessory makers, the likes of Belkin, Griffin, Gear4 are fine, they will be licenced and cover both requirements of the device, and also any safety requirements in the country they are intended for.

Really cheap devices, such as some of the Chinese cheap specials may cut corners, that may be poor current control, lower quality components or poor earthing. All could be risky to your device, or to your house or health.

Unfortunately its very very hard to know if they are to the right spec and someone simply ran an extra few thousand off at the end of a licenced production run, so effectively hitting all standards, or they are cheap copies cutting corners.

Best advice is stick with a reputable device from a reputable store, you they cost more than Ebay but you know the providence of the device, after all you've spent £600 on a phone, no point then cutting corners and risking damage to it.
