Other than going through each individual statement to find the missing balance, or to show when the balance first dropped on their system, I don't know what to do.

I am surprised that you take the trouble to keep a daily record and yet it is more than a month or two since you last reconciled with your bank account. When I find a discrepancy I skim back to a point where the balances agree (no need to check every transaction on every statement at this stage) and then work forward transaction by transaction to find what's different. Usually I have simply forgotten to enter something, have mistyped something or on rare occasions recorded a debit as a credit.

I check MS money weekly and can easily find my 'finger data' problems
    without that much fuss.

Poisondwarf - you've gone very quiet- did you find your error?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I've read that if you submit a SAR (Subject Access Request) to the bank they have to provide you with every piece of information they have about you for the sum of £10. This would include all your statements, so much cheaper :D

Perhaps someone can confirm, or otherwise.

That is not correct. They have to provide all the information, true, but they are under no obligation to provide it in the same format as they issued it originally. Rather than bank statements, the information is likely to arrive in a long computer print out of transactions.
