money missing from bank account

Hi
I'm not sure if this will make sense.
On 17 November I checked our online bank account and the balance total was short by £32. No record of a transaction (before or since) for this amount, and I use Microsoft Money to keep a daily track of our spending, which showed that the balance the new balance on the bank website was £32 less than on our personal account records.
I've been in contact with the bank and as far as they are concerned their system shows the balance as it is, and that is correct. They aren't willing to investigate to find how far back the balance change has been. They said they can't investigate and that if I need bank statements it will be £5 a month, up to £60. And they may refund if I put a complaint in. For £32!
Other than going through each individual statement to find the missing balance, or to show when the balance first dropped on their system, I don't know what to do.
Any advice, or has anyone else had similar happen to them?

As you bank online you can do your own trawl on your statements - this is more likely to be an error of yours than the banks, perhaps a missing DD or SO or a finger problemNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Welcome to MSE
I've read that if you submit a SAR (Subject Access Request) to the bank they have to provide you with every piece of information they have about you for the sum of £10. This would include all your statements, so much cheaper
Perhaps someone can confirm, or otherwise. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

You will have as much info online as you will get from.hard copies from.the bank. I can access my Santander transactions online from the day the account was opened.
Have a look and see what info you already have on line. When did you last renconcile your records with the BanksNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
This makes no sense really.Poisondwarf wrote: »...I checked our online bank account and the balance total was short by £32. When was the last time the balances were the same online and in your MS Money? If it wasn't that long time ago, why can you not just compare the transactions available online (recent and in the available statements)?
If it was years ago, than good luck with trawling though years of transactions to find the source of £32 discrepancy!0 -
99.9% chance that you've missed something updating MsMoney. I use Ms Money and every few months I find I need to compare it with the online statements. One suggestion - "splits" in regular payments/income can hide errors from immediate view.0

On your MS Money have you misposted £16 as a credit rather than a debit ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Unless you can identify the disputed debit(s) for the £32 in question, you won't get very far with your bank."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Wouldn't it be pleasant if the OP came back and commented? Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
