do voda or o2 have p&g sims that you can just top up and use when required? All the tariffs seem to be ' top up £10 and get xxx for 30 days'

Just want one for emergencies for the car, that i can stick a tenner in and it will last for months

most of the PAYG sims expire (no number) after about 6 mths , there are exceptions , for your use , you do not want x mins etc per month ,you want a basic £10 payg setup , and making one call keeps the card "alive"

if you are making minimal calls , it doesn't matter which tarrif (cost per min) you get , just make sure that 0845 type numbers (AA / RAC) are available at a decent rate , and as a second thought , get a plan that your other half/family use that allows free calls to same network ,, they can do the donkey work googling garages etc for you

All networks' PAYG credit doesn't expire.
If the phone is 3g, then Three is the cheapest with 3p/min.

If you like O2, consider Giff Gaff.

You'll get £5 of free credit on topping up....which effective makes the calls and text messages the same price as Sainsburys Mobile.
But in addition you get free calls to 0800 numbers.
If anyone else has a Giff Gaff SIM, you get 3 months of free calls to another GiffGaff SIM for each topup.

    Tariffs

They are also much cheaper for when it comes to International calls.

I think the £5 credit is only applicable to SIM cards supplied by an existing member, if you simply order from the home page it has no free credit.

    I don't think Giff Gaff offers £5 topups - Sainsbury's Mobile does.

I'm sure I've seen someone tell you that is incorrect in another post...

    Sainsburys is £10 minimum

    By top-up card

Before you use your top-up card for the first time you’ll need to link it to your mobile number. To do this, call 40775 free from your mobile and choose option 1, followed by option 3. When prompted, enter your top-up card number, then at the next prompt enter the unique code, which you’ll find under the scratch-off panel. You’ll now be able to use your top-up card at Sainsbury’s and other outlets displaying the green top-up logo.

Once your top-up card is linked, you can use it to top up quickly and easily. Decide how much credit you want to buy: choose from £10, £15, £20, £25, £30 or £50. Hand your card to the retailer to be swiped, then pay by cash, debit or credit card.

    • By phone

Call 40775 free and choose option 1, followed by option 1 to pay by debit or credit card.

    • By top-up voucher

You can buy top-up vouchers from Sainsbury’s or other outlets displaying the green top-up logo: the values available are £10, £15, £20, £25, £30 and £50. Then call 40775 free and choose option 1, followed by option 2. At the prompt, enter the 16-digit code on the voucher. The credit will then be added to your account.

The thread was A non 3g sim card needed
And in fact 'somebody' said that £5 was correct:

For customers that want a simple price plan to use infrequently there is also the option of the basic price plan with calls at 8p per minute, 4p per text and a data price of 50p per day (for up to 25MB). It also offers double Nectar points on the value of top-ups.

Whatever price plan customers chose they will be able to top up their Mobile by Sainsbury’s balance for as little as £5.
