Thanks Jelly. All great suggests for me to look into. :T

Apart from Yorkshire. No you don't. I go often and would probably live there given the opportunity. :)

Strange how I spend most of my life near you and you visit Yorkshire often...... are you me!

  • My goal for this year is to bin ready meals as living alone it is the easy option. It is not a new years resolution but instead a goal to work towards.
    Couldn't agree more:T:T:T
I did this about three years ago (probably around the time I joined the MSE forum, though I was over on the Eating Out of Freezer and Cupboards thread then). I realised I'd slowly got out of the habit of cooking, full-stop, which is something I'd always loved to do. So I ditched the ready-meal-buying habit, and got back into cooking - menu planning, batch cooking (at weekends, buying a slow cooker helped as well), buying fruit and veg and suchlike when in season and at its cheapest.
I knew exactly what what was in the food I was eating, and I could make it exactly as I wanted it.
I also set myself a little challenge of making everything from scratch, learning or rediscovering skills along the way - pizza (I make a mean pizza sauce now, even if I say so myself:o), pasta, piri-piri sauce, foccacia, ciabatta, chilli sauce, pesto, etc.
My monthly food bills pretty much halved immediately, and have kept going down ever since (Sept to Nov was less than £10 a month:)).

I enjoy my own company. And now have an entire choc and walnut brownie I do not have to share so it's all good!! :)

Don't worry about me Nanny. I'm very happy. One day a bloke might come along but that's up to the universe.
