Thanks Jelly. All great suggests for me to look into. :TApart from Yorkshire. No you don't. I go often and would probably live there given the opportunity.
We had some friends over from Mexico in the autumn, they toured all round the UK and Europe, but it was the time they spent in Yorkshire that they remembered most fondly - eating 99 ice creams from the cafe at Gordale Scar (just how do you explain what a 99 is to someone who's never seen one before?), getting hands-on helping a sheep farmer in the Dales (they thought the sheep were goats, bless 'em), at the Cow & Calf teaching them the words to Ilkley Moor Baht 'At, on the sands at Robin Hoods Bay watching the Coast-to-Coasters arrive and paddle in the sea to finish their cross-country challenge, eating fish and chips and mushy peas in the pub with a pint of real ale ... I felt like my home county's unofficial ambassador - I was so proud:D'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

Isle of Skye (it's too long since I went, and I need to go back soon ... fingers crossed for 2015)
Shropshire (a county that people tend to drive through on the way to Wales, but has a lot to recommend it ... if you go, have a drink in the Six Bells and think of Jelly:))
Northumberland (stunning countryside and coast, huge landscapes where you won't meet another soul)
Dorset (another county that people tend to pass through rather than stop, but they should do ... take some Thomas Hardy novels to read while there)
Llyn Peninsula (a recent rediscovery for me, lovely people and great food ... take a trip to Bardsey Island and say hello to Colin the boatman from me:))
Cotswolds (can be very touristy, but if you want a place that is quintessentially English, this is it ... almost too beautiful for words)
...and last but not least...
Yorkshire (I don't really need to explain why, do I?):D it is a wonderful place.
