The model in the photo is Alice Prin - she was a fascinating person in her own right, better known as the Queen of Montparnasse - one of the twentieth century's pioneering women that no one's really heard of; in the 1920s she influenced Parisian art and culture (and therefore French and therefore European and therefore world culture). Lots to go on there, from a feminist/psychoanalytical angle ... a photo objectifying women that has as its model an interesting and influential woman in her own right.

Man Ray later had an affair with Lee Miller (from 1929 onwards), another one of the 20th century's women that no one's really heard of. A fashion model who turned photographer, and a brilliant photographer at that (I think she's a better photographer than Man Ray). Her WW2 images (especially of the concentration camps) are truly unforgettable.
