How are Tesco vouchers stolen when there is no on line account?

Tesco tell me my vouchers have already been used when I know this is impossible because I still have them in my possession. They tell me they were used in the same store that I usually shop in.
The Police are not interested but the Police Woman that I spoke to told me she uses the same store as me and also recently had her vouchers fraudulently used.
Does anyone know how this fraud is carried out. I have no on line account and Tesco do not have my email address unless it appears on my original Clubcard application.
Thanks

If you have not created an online account someone else may have created one in your name. All it would take is, a letter from Tesco to you, to get into their hands and they could do it. Maybe it got delivered to the wrong address, stolen by the postie or even dumped by the postie and found by someone else.
Once they have created your account they will be able to print any vouchers that have been sent to you, or are due to be sent to you, and use them.0 -
Thanks geordie. I dont think it can be as simple as that because Tesco say my Clubcard was produced when the vouchers were used. I will now check with Tesco to see if someone ordered a duplicate card.
I have now met two other people who have had the same problem at the same store but because they only lost 20 or 30 pounds, which they did not have in the first place, they just laugh it off. Meanwhile someone is making a lot of money.
Thanks

Once you have access to an online account it is easy to change the address, order a new card then change the address back when the card arrives.
I would also think it would be easy to forge a tesco club card, much easier than forging a credit/bank card and that happens all the time.0 -
Hi,
I had mine 'boosted' about 6 weeks ago by someone.
I only discovered when went online to check up to date balance, though I still had the unused vouchers.
Was told to change online password and the value will be refunded on next statement.
Though lost the chance to 'boost' the vouchers in the pre Christmas boost.
Was going to get a Hudl, so maybe worked out for the best.0 -
Thanks for the responses. I'm sure Tesco will know if a duplicate was issued at any time.
I can't work out why it is in Tesco's interest to let this keep happening, they could easily prevent it if they wanted to.
Thanks

This has been going on for ages, see an old thread here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/67182398#Comment_67182398
It has happened to me 3 times (and yes, I have more than followed all the usual security advice - it's an inside job but Tesco refuse to admit it).0 -
To get into 'my clubcard account' you need:
the complete clubcard no, full name i.e. no initials, and postcode.
If the card holder already had an on-line account, then the email address and password would be needed, at one time that was enough, now you're faced with putting in three digits from your Clubcard - many legit people fail here because a different No is linked to their email address.
Ordering a new card - would send it to the Clubcard address for that person!
What can happen is - a member of the family (perhaps at a different address) helped them out some time ago for an on-line order. The Clubcard No stayed linked to their email address, so when ever they go on the Tesco website they see the vouchers - thinking they are theirs, they use them.
I've come across vouchers been used by the son, and Mother using daughter's. It's just a question of what CC is linked to what email address.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

No you don't, I've just tried it and anyone who has an account can try theirs. Once into your tesco account (email and password only needed) you are only asked for 3 digits from your cc number.
You do not need a name or postcode.

Not if you changed the address while in the account and before you ordered a new one.
There is an option to edit your personal details, including your address. I used it when I moved home and it was very simply, just enter a new address and save the details. No questions are asked and no verification is done. What can happen is - a member of the family (perhaps at a different address) helped them out some time ago for an on-line order. The Clubcard No stayed linked to their email address, so when ever they go on the Tesco website they see the vouchers - thinking they are theirs, they use them.
So what you are saying is anyone can use anyone elses club card? All you need are their cc number and you can link it to your account and use any vouchers for that card.
Seriously, you can just take another persons club card, or give some else your card? (The online use of it, not physically giving them the card).I've come across vouchers been used by the son, and Mother using daughter's. It's just a question of what CC is linked to what email address.
It is not just an email address though, is it? It's an email address linked to an online account belonging to someone else. It's not a case of linking an email address to a card, it's linking the account for that email address to a card.
I think your post is just a poor attempt at defending tesco and trying to blame the account holder for their vouchers being stolen.
Unfortunately you have done far more harm than good. If you have the nerve to answer this post please answer the following question.
Can you just take someone elses club card and use it as your own just by knowing their email address. Or can you really allow someone else you use your club card by giving them the number and them linking the card to their account. Thereby having one card linked, and used by two different people with two different accounts?
If either of these are true, then why, when vouchers are reported stolen don't Tesco just tell the person that the vouchers were used by the person who owns the other account the card is linked to?0 -
When I went to use my Tesco Vouchers to the value of £12 at the checkout they said that I had already used them, I said if that was the case why have I still got them, I knew for a fact that I hadn't spent them, I was advised to go to customer services who informed me that I would have to ring the tel. number on the back of my Tesco card and report it, I contacted them and was told that according to the records on my Tesco account I had Used them at a store in Lewisham, I live in Manchester and I have never been to this area in my life I explained to them, I was told to change my Tesco account password, which I did and they would add the vouchers worth £12 to my next lot of vouchers, this was in 2013 and I'm still waiting0
-
This is just an update, I am still waiting for a copy of the till receipt that Tesco says was issued to me when the vouchers were spent.
Tesco tell me that a duplicate Clubcard has never been issued to anyone and that there is no on line account associated with the card. My email address was only given with my card application some years ago.
The mystery deepens!!!
Thanks
