There is also a lot of information about on why you wouldn't want to keep tens of thousands in cash, particularly if you are younger. Not that there is much evidence that many younger people have tens of thousands to put away.0 -
Are UK [STRIKE]pensioners[/STRIKE] / [STRIKE]over 64s [/STRIKE] / [STRIKE]the fastest over 64s[/STRIKE] (remove strikeout as desired) grey if they manage to get £10K or £30K into these bonds? Is being dubbed (there's that word again!!) grey good / bad / racists / acceptable ?
It` an election "bribe" full stop aimed at the over 65`s, be them, silver, grey, white-headed, bald, wig wearing and any other combination you`d care to mention..0 -

Warning, 3 years may not sound long, but it could well be for someone over 65 as of course you never know when your health may fail. I too foresee that this will be quickly over subscribed, & have visons of lots of oldies waiting for midnight on the day before to get in quickly!
Will it be "First come first served, or what?0 -

I will be amazed if they actually stick to the forecasted rates.
Osborne would have made a great play in the Commons about them if the 2.6% & 4% was going to happen.
Instead he side-stepped, saying they`ll be announced tomorrow.
Hope I`m proved wrong.0 -
The real problem for pensioners is that the poorer end are stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they are topped up from basic State Pension to what the government deems to be a living wage of about £150 a week and they happen to have any savings over 10k, then they're penalised on their Pension Credit.0

Me too! I'm in the 'forgotten' band too. I'm retired, claim my state pension and a small works pension but don't seem to qualify for this as I'm not 65 yet.0

I shall be interested to see if the good folk at NS&I have left their computers running while out on their NY K/Ups so Night Hawk 'Pensioner' Codgers can play Poker on their magic machines at 12.00.01 come Jan2.
Anyone like to bet their full allowance that said computers will NOT be OFF although the centres' lighting may be blazingly on, yet with 'no one at home' to answer any phones ?:rotfl:0 -

What makes you think the bonds will become available on Jan 2? And what makes you think applications will be taken a minute after midnight on whatever the date will be?0 -
Lets hope it`s not postal applications sending cheques.0
