Ignore the idiots who talk about electric blankets AND water bottles, a fire risk.

You were nuts to move to prepaid because it is the most expensive rate.

I do not heat or have hot water

I learnt in the military when on exercises you can heat your bed by sleeping naked, it is cold at first but breath under the duvet for 5 to 10 minutes and your body will do the rest.

Another reason not to have prepayment meters is that the energy companies have a fund to help those on low income. You can qualify if you get almost any benefit.

It is hard when you have a child with medical problems, there are some homeopathic options.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

Well it's the same rate as standard tariff which most non MSE's are on.

I am a big fan of pp meters, many folk cannot control their finances and this ensures they do not get into debt. They also become more energy efficient and switch items off. The biggest mistake folk make is not keeping the pp meter topped up in the summer before the more expensive winter especially with gas.

(I think you are confusing homoeostasis (a thing) with homoeopathy (not a thing)!)
  • When I mentioned water bottles AND electric blankets I was assuming that people would not be so stupid as to use both at once. Aren't blankets for warming beds before you get into them? You can then unplug it and cuddle your water bottle.

I have never thought my heating costs as a daily expense as I pay monthly but I do pay about £55 a month so times 12 that is £660 a year.

I pay £50 a month for dual fuel with Scottish Power on the Online (or Offline) Fixed Price Energy January 2016. I am in a mid-terrace with approx. 10 inches of loft insulation too. All my lights have energy efficient bulbs and all my appliances are A or A+ rated. I submit my meter readings on a regular basis and I am often in credit which does get used up more over the winter months. I too am on low income but I would never every switch to one of those pre-pay meters because they are just not cost effective.

I get very cold in the winter so have set my thermostat at around 18 degrees and when the house gets warm it clicks off. I can also control the settings on my radiators too.

I have a good duvet on the bed and sleep in my birthday suit - I don't get cold in bed ever.

being on prepayment meters doesn't exclude you from that help.

How on earth would being naked in bed be warmer than wearing PJs?

Don't know the physics but certainly seems to work if you have a decent duvet. Admit cold for first couple of minutes then snug as a bug in a rug :rotfl:

Warming only two insulating layers of air pretty effective (one round naked body and one inside duvet).

Wearing pyjamas means you also have to warm up clammy cloth plus fight off imperfect wicking and keep them dry.

Duvets are designed to be used without sheets - which includes a pyjama.
