A short term policy may have cost you much more though.

That's one way of looking at it positively

I tried to transfer it to my older car which needs insuring on Friday but unfortunately they do not cover that car.

If they would not give you a quote to cover your old car, then they effectively are unable to insure you, then no payment surely is due.?
If you called to cancel and went through with cancellation then I believe payment has to be made.

  • Just an update to this thread in case someone stumbles across it a couple of centuries from now and wonders what happened :)

It all worked out in the end.

The day my old car insurance was due to expire I checked the moneysupermarket.com comparison website (for the 10000th time) and strangely enough Asda came up as the cheapest. Whereas Asda was no where near the cheapest on the list all those times before.

So, I rang Asda and explained the situation. The lady very kindly agreed to waive the £45 cancellation charge if I insured my older car with them over the phone - which I did. She told me that all the other charges would still apply.

The Asda refund came through today and I had been charged £21 for 5 days of cover, legal expenses, commission etc etc. Which is a huge relief for me.
  • They are rip offs I needed to change car .The car is cheaper to insure but they added another 119 pound to my policy .now I'm changing address lower crime rate street only 5 roads away and they just said it will be another 65 pound .Both times 25 pound admin fee :/ so now my monthly payment is double what all other compare Web sites say it should be .wish I'd never gone with them .thought I was insured by asda but turns out there just broker and when payments I have to talk to another company that ain't my insurance either .There a joke
