High sleeper for modern house

DS has set his heart on a high sleeper. He wants to have a mini living room underneath his bed. However our house's ceilings are about 225cm high - not small for a modern house. Most high sleepers seem to suggest a minimum height of 240cm.
Have looked at mid sleepers but most seem to be too low to put say a bookcase underneath so knowing my DS will just became a pit!

My daughter had one of these before they specified recommended heights.... she had room to lie on her back and around 6" between her face and the ceiling! Having said that, she loved it! Luckily she's always been quite slim, but we replaced it when she was 17...0

How tall is the bed/mattress?
Your room is about 7 foot 4, - I would think the bed would be small enough unless the mattress were very high up?
This site have a few beds which might be suitable:

The one he wanted is 185cm which would mean only 40cm between it and ceiling.0

we had a mid sleeper and that was fine for our DD - she got it when she was about 5 or 6 and any higher would have made tucking her in very difficult. Plus falling out of bed would have been dangerous. She could make a den and play under there but it wasn't much fun when I had to join her (I am tall) so you really need a high sleeper for usable space. I think the mid sleeper was 140cm whereas the high version was 180cm. Ours was a Flexa bed. Ironically we have 10ft ceilings so would have been fine with a high one later on.
We eventually took the legs off and it is now more of a day bed style.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

DS is 12 so not sure if he will outgrow it too soon!0 -
I wouldn't recommend it with only 40cm between the bed and the ceiling. I'd go for a different bed (or knock a hole in the ceiling :rotfl: )0

Found one that is 175cm but think that might still be too tight!0

How about this one? You could put bean bags and cupboards from Ikea underneath?0 -
Could you buy one that you can cut down? easiest if wood of course. That could then still be a bit higher than the mid-sleeper style.
Some places have bunk beds that have lower top beds than loft beds usually have - perhaps you could find one the right height (160cm?) and that has the option of removing the lower bunk?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Maybe it calls for some thinking outside the box. Have you seen those amazing storage systems by the american company online where you can lift the corner of a bed and it becomes some sort of international airport? Look into one of those!I can't add up.0
