Hi,
Just relating to N&P rather than tax issues.
I find N&P more strict than any other banks. So far I had accounts with nearly all UK banks - Lloyds/Halifax/BOS/FD/Nationwide/Co-Op/HSBC and now recently opened up Yorkshire Bank account to obtain incentive of £150. All accounts was immediately accepted.
This time last year I applied for N&P account. It was referred - after days I received an email saying application declined. I rang them up adviser spoke with underwriter - They said no problem with credit report but I do not match internal criteria. I guess they would have looked at all my other bank accounts/credit cards and made a decision not a profitable customer. Next application I made was for Halifax Clarity card which was accepted.
So my point is N&P look into customers credit report more than any other bank will do.

Most of my questions for this account opening rejection have been answered.
What do you believe that should my next steps in order to improve my credit score so that I will be able to get a card such Clarity in the near future?

For the score it doesn't matter where the income is generated as long as it can be proved if asked.Thrugelmir wrote: »A UK generated income from a permanent position.
It's a separate question that the income generated abroad has to be declared and taxed in UK.0 -

"Do not match internal criteria" this is a meaningless and generic reply from them. I am already accustomed to this phrase from the banks. When you ask which one they will not be able to tell you. Everyone will be able to say that even without even refer to see your application.
I found the underwriter for N&P are a bunch of ignorant. I have been rejected for a current account by N&P twice. I have a very good credit records. Since their rejection, I still got a mortgage offer, could cancel and get a new credit card without difficulties. Also I have more than a dozen current accounts. Also I thing also because we apply online so they have no opportunity to quiz if they have question. So easy answer Reject ....0 -

I did read the previous posts. My observation was said seriously. There are rules in place for good reason. On the whole your expectations are far too high given your current status in the country. I put that down to ignorance. I will skip on as you suggest.0 -

You have more chances of being accepted for Clarity card if you hold an Halifax account. Best will be open up a Reward account - switch account to them to gain £100 incentive + £5pm if you deposit £750 and 2 different DDs are paid. You have already made afew application so best not to apply for further credit after this application.
Use the account for 3-6 months and see if offer appears on your online banking. Or if visit the branch they can tell you if you are pre-approved for an credit card.
If you are interested in N&P then open up the start account - pay in at least £500 - use the account regularly and them to see if it can be upgraded. Not used myself but I have heard from other that N&P telephone banking is really good for existing customer.
Again best not to apply for too much credit as that will reduce your credit score.

Poor English aside, they don't (currently) want you as a customer for whatever reason - that doesn't make them ignorant or anything else.I found the underwriter for N&P are a bunch of ignorant.
