Well, from what he says he is a UK resident.....just one who doesn't want to live by UK laws...........

Agreed.

I did post the relevant link earlier

It also struck me that most UK bank accounts require you to be a UK resident to open them. I wonder what OP put on the application forms

When opened my first bank account with TSB i clearly stated that i just moved to the UK and at the date opened the account they registered in their system the date moved to my UK address which is the date moved to the UK. The also noted my previous address which was abroad...

They only asked for my EU passport and they opened me a full current account.

I fully respect the laws and i fully pay my taxes. If you cannot contribute , please skip..

Hi,

Sorry to jump in on this thread with my own question but I applied for an N&P Gold Classic account today for the same reasons as the OP - to use the debit card whilst travelling and not incur any charges.

The Online Application ended with:

Application Complete

"Once we have received your signed application form and appropriate identification, we can open your account and at this point we will be able to tell you your new account number."

I then got an email from N&P in which it said...

"We are delighted to confirm your application for an N&P Gold Classic Current Account, reference number xxxxxx, is progressing well. Before we can open your account we need you to send us your signed application form and proof of your identity. Documents must be originals or certified copies. Copies can be certified by a solicitor, an accountant or bank/building society staff in the UK.
We need you to supply the following proof of identity;
One item of personal identification, one separate item of address verification and one separate other personal identification or address verification.
What happens now?
Once we have received your signed application form and appropriate identification, we can open your account and at this point we will be able to tell you your new account number."

My question is : Have they done the Credit check already and does it sound like all I need to do is print off, sign the form along with ID and the account will definitely open or would they conduct the searches and see if I am accepted AFTER I sign and send the forms and ID in?

I would really appreciate any advice very much!

You are changing your story all the while. Earlier on you didn't give the impression you are complying with UK law, and I frankly don't believe that this changed since your last few posts.

It's not my problem, and not a problem of UK law, if you don't hear what you would like to hear.

I don't know whether they have done a credit check or whether they will only do it once they have seen your documents. You could call them and ask. They may or may not open the account for you eventually - depends on whether they are satisfied with the documents you send them.

The "impression" you have is clearly false due to the facts.
TSB accepted my application for full current account just after few days arrived in the UK. The application states the date moved in the UK as long as the previous address abroad.

If this is against the UK law please check with TSB because I just checked their website and the criteria are the same.

I don't want to hear anything in specific , just avoid being such critical and ironic.

If they are happy with my ID, proof of address and name etc. and who I am is it 100 percent that I will be accepted though? Otherwise what's the point in asking a customer to go to the effort of getting all this stuff together and sending it in (which requires me to go into town and walk in branch as I don't feel comfortable posting it) if they are then going to conduct the credit searches after - surely it would make sense to do that first before asking for the customer's effort to send ID incase the credit check comes back as declining the application? Doesn't make any sense to me!

I believe they have done the credit check already.
When I apllied I received an answer that my application was declined due to little history in my credit file and they have not asked for any documents. They offered the start account but I declined. Although I don't know if they would ask me to send any docs after if I had said yes to the start account.

I hope I helped :)

Thanks, I hope you're right, but if I had to guess I would say that I've been accepted dependant on proof of ID, which I know will be fine on that front, my only problem is my not so brilliant credit history.

If you say that you didn't get asked to send any documents in or an email asking you to send any in then I guess I should be ok in that I have got that far, otherwise I'll be a bit annoyed!

*Fingers crossed I get it!*

I have not said there is anything illegal with you having UK bank accounts.

The issue I raised is that you quite obviously believe you are not subject to UK tax law.

Afraid, you are wrong again. It is most certainly not down to you to choose to pay your taxes where you like to pay them. You have to comply with the laws of the country you live in. This is not particular to the UK but is the case in all countries.

The HMRC will be able to definitively tell you whether you are considered resident for UK tax purposes, but broadly speaking if you spend more than half the financial year in a given country, you have to pay tax in that country.

Seconded.

The only real exemption for this (as far as I'm aware) is air crew.

I have a relative living in UK, who is a pilot for an airline in Luxembourg, and (IIRC from what I'm told), this is worked out on the country where the airline is based, not the country the worker is from.

I'm sure Ryanair were using something similar, for their staff to all be on Irish contracts.
