New Years Goals and Career Changes - A diary for a better me.

Feeling a little disheartened.
I am looking at moving, but just done a check on mortgage calculator and it looks like in my current situation, they will lend me £6K!! Even with a £20,000 deposit. I cant buy a tiny piece of land with that!
I feel so stupid for getting myself in to such a mess, but I don't feel like my current situation will help matters either. I don't earn a lot, but similar jobs in my field are the same amount. My car is the biggest outgoing, but then I am stuck with it, with no chance of changing, until April 2018

Hi
I ended yesterdays post half finished as I was more upset that I thought, so I back to finish it off.
I tried another calculator which said that the company in question would be willing to loan me £15,500! I can't believe that even having a deposit doesn't help me out. My financial situation is so dire that its just impossible.
I have decided to stay where I am for 2 and a half years. The mortgage on my house would have reduced by £11K+ in that time and I will be handing my car back. I am going to use the time between now and then to save as much money as I can so when I hand my car back, I can buy a secondhand car outright. I will then hopefully be in a better position to be able to get a mortgage of my own.
I am also going to apply for part-time weekend work to supplement my savings and will be collecting applications forms when I am next at the local shopping center. Christmas work would do me for now.
I am also going to focus solely on finishing my AAT course and getting a better paid full time job, as my income is also stopping my house buying prospects.

Well, i'm posting here again as I am struggling.
I am not in debt and I am still on plan to pay the credit card as and when the final payment comes through. I can clear £180.16 right at this moment (just waiting for the bill to come in, so the payment is made in the correct month - which should be any day now) however, my secure job is no longer secure.
We had something major happen yesterday which I don't want to discuss on here, but it has made my job very shaky. I could loose it. The only good thing is that they have to by law give me 6 months notice/pay if they want me out.
The scary thing is that I have no emergency fund and that has shocked me more than anything. Wages went in late due to everything that happened and I panicked majorly as all my bills go out at the start of the month, I only ended up covering one bill early before it went in but even that shocked me. Until I knew what was happening, I couldn't fill my car, I couldn't buy food....
The need to find a new job is more pressing than ever. I don't cope well with stress and I have had the worst 24hours in ages. Even this morning, one bill failed as I thought it was a direct debit, but it turns out it was linked with my old debit card from my old bank account. Luckily I could fix it and the payment had gone through fine, but Virgin Media have taken too much from my last bill. I queried it last month and they corrected it in time for the direct debit, this time, they haven't and have take more money. I know they wont refund me, they will take it off next month, but its not the point. Its leaving me short this month.
So I will be back on here all month, recording every penny that passed in an out of my account, justifying everything that I have bought, which should only be grocery related as I can't afford anything else.
I have also looked in to doing the 24+ loan. I have for level 3 who will take it, so once I complete level 2, I will look at moving providers and doing this. This means that eventually any money I would have put towards the course, will go to the emergency fund.
Anyway, I need to seriously look at my life this weekend and figure out what the hell I am doing. I just need to get through today. Wish me luck - I think i'm going to need it.

My head must have been out of it this morning as I wrote six months notice but it should read as six weeks

Basically my employer has gone in to administration and I have been TUPE'd over to a new one. The new owners are not interested in my department - they haven't come to see us and we have been told just to keep things running and they don't seem interested in the project work that we do. Their words are that they are going to review it.
My boss got let go as he was on a self employed contract for the majority of his time. He was given a contract but it was only recent so I think they are trying to work out if they can legally get rid of him. He has been sort of put on garden leave for now - I think.
We have basically been stabbed in the back by our old MD and the atmosphere at work is horrific. My team are all frightened for their jobs and they keep asking me. I refer them to ACAS but other than that I'm only guessing on what's happening. We are being left in the dark and I seem to have fallen in sort of charge of my department and I'm only admin.
Apologies for the bad grammar and spelling - I am on my iPad and it doesn't let me go back to change a letter without deleting everything I have typed. I will edit this when I am back on my laptop xxCar Paid in full - 10/06/2016 :j0 -
Well its been almost a week since everything hit the fan. Nothing has really changed. I am being given responsibility but not being paid extra for it. I am paid a measly salary and if they think i'll keep doing what they ask for it, then can think again. I am on daily to the agencies and searching job centre websites but so far, nothing is coming up. I am slowly trying to find things to distract me at home, and so far I have crocheted 3 squares for a new blanket, which considering a week ago, I could barely crochet, I think i'm addicted. This and i'm editing my accounting documents, left right and centre, to get exam ready.
Money wise, I'm struggling a little. I knew this would be a bad month and its proving a little difficult, but i'll get there and my parents are well aware of the situation and are poised to help at a moments notice.
I am just trying to monitor my food/ petrol resources and making them last as long as I possibly can.
I'll be making the payment to the credit card shortly, so at least that will be sorted out, and I point blank refuse to put the heating on until November 7th (after my meter reading for this month has been submitted).
Well off to get ready for work... I really don't want to go xCar Paid in full - 10/06/2016 :j0 -
Hi Myteeduck
Just want to say I hope your work situation is resolved soon. It's very unfair of the new owners to leave you all wondering what is going on. Is there no-one you can approach to ask for some clarity on your position?
Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon, you are doing so well with your finances and studies etc, you will win through in the end, whatever happens. Take care. XMFIT -T5 #420 -
Hi all
Just a quick update - the credit card is paid off again - I received the final £200 and as planned, it was paid off the same day.
I potentially have an accounts job
I have been offered a job in my accounts department, but in order to get it, I have to be made redundant from my current role. The finer details are still being worked out, but I may be on the move. I am training in the new role, but its not officially my role just yet.
If all goes to plan, in 3 months, I will get a potential pay rise.
Whoop Whoop! xCar Paid in full - 10/06/2016 :j0 -
Well scrap the 3 moths, I got a pay rise yesterday. I am working in accounts, but the new owners decided that I wasn't paid enough for what I used to do so have increased my pay already, backdated to when they took over. So payday tomorrow is my new rate. I am so happy.
I am getting experience in accounting and I am being paid a decent rate with a potential pay rise when I prove myself capable.
Another change is that I am batch cooking. I have been cooking all week and my deep freeze is stuffed with ready made meals to keep me going for ages! I normally spend a fortune in the first week after pay day, but this time, I won't need to buy half as much food. So major savings there.
I am going to act potentially as if I haven't had a pay rise and I am going to keep to my budgets and I am going to move all of the available cash that's over my budgets to a second account and try my very best to forget about it. If I still have most of it at the end of November, then it will be a massive bonus and I will be able to repeat it in December. In January life gets even easier and there will be more money going in to the pot.
I have purchased a dyson vacuum cleaner on a interest free card (which belongs to my mum so I can't add more to it) for 12 months, which came to £280 ( I desperately needed one and the amount of cat hair in my flat was shocking) but the aim is to pay mum back sooner than 12 months. I will aim to pay it over 6 months maximum. I would much prefer to see the cleaner paid for and the money go into savings.
Also I am going to speak with work about them paying for my AAT level 3 course (the great thing about accountants taking over the business is that they will see the importance and will hopefully jump at the chance).
Anyway off to go batch cook some Mushroom soup
