VODAFONE Failed PORT

Hi guys, I requested a PAC code from Vodafone and used it with Tesco Mobile. The date agreed for the Port to complete was the 25th November. Since then i have had a Split Service. I can make phone calls but cannot receive calls or text.

Tesco advise that Vodafone is not releasing the number. they keep escalating it to Vodafone but are not getting anywhere.

if i ring Vodafone they fob me off saying its back-office problem and they cant help me. I haven't been contactable for over 2 weeks.

what can i do ?

ps. I have tweeted them emailed them. even wrote a complaint letter to no response.

If you have written a proper letter and sent it. Did you send recorded or get proof of posting?

    Escalate that complaint.

  • I have become a bit of an armchair expert in number porting following a port into Virgin from Vodafone for a relative that took over 10days to complete.

In your instance it is likely it is Vodafone to blame as they need to release the number.
It doesn't end there though, as I discovered that all UK mobile number porting is done by an independent firm that all the networks pay to manage the port system (Syniverse)

This firm seemed to almost be a bit of a secret as to their existence and when I spoke to the "MNP teams" at each network it became obvious that they were merely liaising with this one central body who oversee the whole thing - although they gave the impression that MNP was fully in house.

I emailed some people high up in the recipient and the donor network as well as a few high up names at the port company (I didn't bother the CEO at this stage in any firm) and as if by some miracle, within 24hours the port was complete - some 10 working days after the switch date, when I called CS to say thanks they still thought it was not done!

If you google "mnp guide" the first document there contains a few useful emails you may want to try and mentions the role of the elusive "brain" of number porting - Syniverse.

The second link provides useful info on the exact process and timescales involved - for example look at page 55 of the second link to see where the fault might be in your case.
Further on it is mentioned that port should be complete by 1500 with a buffer beyond in case of problem.

I've probably gone on too long - sorry!

But I feel your annoyance so somewhere on here I may have helped - let me know!
