unhappy with MSE?

I have to say i am very disappointed with my recent energy switch.

The savings promised by the Money Savings "expert" web site would appear to be completely wrong!! I changed on there advice from EDF to Sainsbury's and it appears the savings are negligable to those promised.
I logged on to MSE today and find they are recommending I join EDF again!!

I find I am unable to log into Sainsbury's website to check my details and am told to get another e-mail address as it is already registered with British Gas!! This is not something I have ever been required to do with any other web site, and do not want.
I had no idea ,nor was I informed that, my dual fuel would be supplied by British Gas who I have previously had dealings with.
I am told that to cancel my account with Sainsbury's Energy and revert to EDF will cost me £60.00 even though I am yet to receive a bill.
I am not happy!!

My own calculation claimed I'd save £150, but before I was about to do the switch I did the math myself. Most of the saving was the difference from when my tariff ends (the last few months of the yearly billing period) and the period between now and then it was more or less the same price lol

And then I had £60 exit fees to factor in! All in all I wasnt really going to save anything.

My advice is work it out yourself by calculating the standard charge and unit cost.

Could not agree more, do your own sums and do not assume a comparison site is doing you a favour

I think you should wait at least until the bill comes to see exactly where you stand.

How hard is it to work out any saving .
Multiply days by standing charge multiply gas and electric tariff by your usage .Total amount is compared to your last years usage or any other deal .
Possible for MSE to redesign the web comparison as to the fact so many are posting who do not have a clue what they are signing up to .

Thanks for the post, however, surely the idea of being with the Energy Club is that they do the maths for you and the advice they give should be correct

To work out your own saving is not that easy as shown by Sainsbury's own employee who could not explain why Money Expert's comparison was so far out

The energy club is a moneymaking exercise, it makes money for each customer that switches. Why would they present you with anything but data which make you want to switch?

Sainsburys Energy is also essentially an offshoot of British Gas, on all industry databases Sainsburys customers are listed as British Gas.

    Of course its easy .
You have your past usage .
You have a number of days in the year .
You have kWh tariff prices .
If you have no past usage then its a guess at average usage .
The MSE web site can only multiply the numbers you put in .

You had an EDF tariff you multiply the numbers as above and compare it to whatever tariff you want .

<<<I am told that to cancel my account with Sainsbury's Energy and revert to EDF will cost me £60.00 >>>

Above more or less suggests that you have not even bothered to read anything reference your swap or contract .

I gave up looking at the switch sites years ago, when I got the calculator out and did just that, standing charge plus usage multiplied by tariff cost. It never seemed to tally with what the comparison sites said. But if you use 500 units at £1.00 each and the new supplier is 500 units at £1.08 (we'll assume standing charge is the same for this exercise) there is no way supplier 'b' is going to save you money by charging you more.

I also tried looking at some comparison sites that didn't do the swaps (i.e. information only no possible financial gain) and they included a lot of plans that the money sites didn't.
