I just wanted to thank everyone who tried to help me with this issue last week.
I'm sorry that I stopped replying, but the other desktop I was using to access this site & follow your advice was no longer available to me.
Unfortunately I ended up paying someone to attempt a repair. They tried to recover my files from the HDD but the operating system was corrupted and all data was unrecoverable. They also replaced the CMOS battery and cleaned out all the dust from inside of the tower. It cost me £58 I didn't have, but was a valuable lesson in remembering to keep my files backed up regularly.
Thanks again everyone.
You might want to take this opportunity to upgrade your OS, before you fill up the drive with new data.
I can guide you through how to do so. At least you'll feel some value from your £58.0 -
I'm not entirely sure I'd trust a harddrive that some reason became corrupt for no real reason.
It looks like your motherboard has SATA ports and SATA harddrives are peanuts these days. If you want to future proof yourself and drastically speed up your computer, I would recommend an SSD drive - these cost a little more than harddrives, but I genuinely feel they are worth the extra cost. Depending on how much capacity you need, you might get away with 64GB, but 128GB would be more comfortable and future proof.0
