I think it is OK to leave no more than the normal amount of rubbish - so no more than half a bin full if you are half way through the collection cycle. If you can bag everything and take to the tip to leave an empty bin then that is even better.

When I moved, I did a tip run the day before I moved but still ended up with stuff going in the wheelie bin as there were last minute things as the alst of the packing etc was done, so I would aim to have an empty bin on moving day, and then just put the last minute bins in which hopefully will be less than 1/2 a bin (and if it is more, take the extra with you or ask a neighbour if you can put it in their bin)

I would also leave a note telling the new owners which days which bins are collected and when the collection is next due.

When we moved, we had one bag of normal household rubbish. Left it with a neighbour and they put it out for us with theirs.

If you don't have a friendly neighbour, ask the EA to ask the buyer if they mind you leaving a bag. Tell them it'll be done up and left in the garage/behind the gate/somewhere else out of the way and would then go out X days later. I'm sure the buyer would say they don't mind.

I'm putting what hasn't gone to the dump in my wheelie bins the day I move, it's a service I am forced to pay for under threat of imprisonment so I'm going to use it
  • My buyer actually told me not to worry about the last couple of bin bags as I was leaving the house for the last time. He'd deal with them :)

If the council ask you to continue paying council tax for a property after you no longer live in or own it I would advise you to tell them NO! :money:

  • Thank you all - all of the big stuff has gone to the dump already, its literally the kitchen bin. I think if i have time i shall take it to the dump, but more than likely will leave it in the bin and just leave a note
