moving house - what to do with rubbish?

This may be a very silly question but we are completing on Friday - our bins get collected on a Thursday every 2 weeks ( except recycling which is weekly). The next household waste collection is due the week AFTER we move out. Are we expected to take the rubbish with us, there is likely to be 2 bags full ( about half of the black bin). What is the etiquette here?

Great question! I know we will have the same thing hopefully soon. When a neighbour moved recently they took as much as possible to the tip in the days leading up to the move. But you are likely to have a lot more than a couple of bags full. My neighbour asked all of us in the same row if we would mind her putting some rubbish in our bins. Because she asked and we knew she wouldn't take the mickey we were all okay with it.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

yes we have been doing multiple trips to the dump the last few weeks and have been taking it with us - its just the general household waste really - like food wrappings, milk tops and the likes.0

Just take it all to the tip as soon as possible before you move.
Any small amount arising after that you can either take with you or ask your old neighbours if they'd be so kind...
Don't leave it for your vendors, particularly not on the public pavement......speaking from bitter experience!:eek:0 -
Take it to the tip or hire a skip if there's a lot.0

It would be considerate to the new owners to take it with you and leave the wheelie bins empty as moving house typically generates a fair amount of rubbish in itself. However, leaving the black wheelie bin half full is unlikely to cause any major repercussions.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Leave it, leave a note both apologising and welcoming them to new home. Its only half a bin full. You could leave a bottle of wine if you feel really bad about it.0

When I moved in to my current property, the previous owners left several bin bags of rubbish, boxes etc on the front garden waiting for the bin collection day, which was 6 days later. I was not impressed! Especially when some of it wasn't taken by the bin men and was left on the front garden. I was able to address this when the old owners cat had made its way back to the house and they had to come and collect her. I was able to say 'oh you seem to have left some of your belongings behind in the front garden'
My property form that the solicitors sent me has a statement that I agree that all rubbish will be removed from the house and gardens when I move.
Personally I would take it to the local tip/recycling centre. It is not fair on the people moving in.0 -
Take it to the tip. On the day of the move have enough room in the car for a large cardboard box with cleaning stuff in plus the last minute rubbish. You will also want to keep the mop and hoover to the very last minute before locking the door and taking them in the car.
We bleached our bins just to make them smell clean for the new onwers.0 -
If you do end up taking black bags to the council tip, and there are smelly things in there, double-bag just be on on the safe side."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0

We are completing next week and in the run-up to exchange have been taking bits and bobs to the dump, but will be getting a skip tomorrow to get rid of the larger stuff - old, unwanted building materials lurking in shed etc
Good idea about bleaching insides of wheelie bins btw, hadn't thought of thatMortgage-free for fourteen years!
