Found this on ThinkBroadBand forum,

email received from Sipgate .
I have not had this email and neither have any of my friends who are
on Sipgate.
Short notice to say the least, especially at this time of year.
Though it looks as though they are continuing the basic in Germany.

RIP Indeed.
Not had the email myself yet. Need to think what alternative to use.
:shocked:0 -
I've not had an email either.
'Basic residential service' isn't a phrase I recognise either.
The only thing I use Sipgate for is to get a free 'landline' number, that I never answer - in fact, I don't even install the VOIP app. Sipgate emails voicemails as .wav attachments.
I only joined because I've got rid of my landline, and at that time some companies would only set up accounts if you had a landline number.0 -
Hmmm jsut wondering what people are going to use now?
I use DIDLogic a lot. I wonder how much Id have to pay epr month to get the number ported. Cant imagine it being any thing more than $1/month
See:
https://didlogic.com/sipaccounts/forbidden
Only issue of course is the following numbers
999/112 (What happens to them?)
0500/0800/0808 numbers at DIDLogic cost approx 0.35p/min (instead of FREE)
0844/0871 numbers cost approx 17p/min (instead of 4p and 10p)
0845 costs approx 15p/min (instead of 3p)
0870 costs approx 22p/min (instead of 7.51p)
I guess Id be looking at getting a provider, taht provides a good rate for those numbers, but on a "PAYG" service?
And if I can't get DIDLogic to port over, I guess Id have to either get my parents ported to another more expensive provider, or if theyre cool, change the number again for a London one, cos they're only $0.40/month0 -
Interesting. There's Flextel
http://www.flextel.com/costs/Flextel+Price+List/
I reckon I could probably get my number for £15-20 and it's "for life" I think....
Also interesting:
http://www.simpletelecoms.co.uk/PBCPPlayer.asp?ID=1394937
It appears the only phone number I've REALLY had to call is an 0844 number which I couldnt find an alternative for (and freephone numbers)
Actually that last one wants you to pay £9/month I think just for the phone???? That's a bit..much
FlexTel:
Semi decent rates????
0800/0808 = Free
0500 =3p/min
0844 = max 10p/min (Variable costs)
0871 = max 20p/min (Variable costs)
0845 = 5p/min (Cheaper to use your mobile phone tbh via 18185.co.uk)
0870 = 3p/min (As cheap as 18185.co.uk)
They also charge you for incoming calls tho (from a non VoIP phone)
Then again, calling my insurance company says "barred"
http://www.flextel.com/costs/Call+Price+Calculator/?destination_number=0844+800+2561#Call+Price+Calculator
The pricing isnt "simple"
Also:
http://www.localphone.com/prices/u#pricesTableContainer
0800/0808/0500 = Free
0844/0845/0870 = 8.2p/min
0300= 0.4p/min
0870 = 4p/min0 -
I suggest moving this thread to the Phones & TV section.
The free 03 number link mentioned at that other site seems to work fine for redirecting to a PBXes.org account.
Although family and friends might be a bit reluctant to call an 03 number.0 -

Just wondering, how you get that to work then? I tried getting it to work and couldn't?
For now, I've temporarily paid $0.99 for a UK number from DIDLogic but that's $0.99/month
Also, using localphone for the majority of numbers now. Just not 01,02,06 and 09
For us, we dont get THAT many people calling us tbh...0 -

Not sure why anyone would have a problem calling an 03 number, they're charged the same as 01 and 02 numbers.0 -

You need to make sure you have a default incoming route in your PBXes config, this can point either to an extension or a ring group. The default route will have the name /
Then configure your 03 number to connect to something like SIP/xyz@pbxes.org where xyz is your PBXes account name or number.
The site is free03numbers.com0 -

Thanks for that. It appears, that the number is recognised, because with voicemail, the pbx says extension number 00xxxx is on the phone. Please leave a message
With voice mail turned off, it doesnt go through
Cant see why it shouldnt work? I mean it's not being used??
EDIT: I see. It's not got inbound trunk settings for that number, but then when I went in to edit stuff in there, to what I thought might be it, it still didnt work??0 -
I've just tried Andrews & Arnold service.
Compared to Sipgate, the web interface appears very basic:
* No contacts list, no ability to have contact names added to call histories, no click-to-dial
* No web access to voicemail, no ability to add contact names to voicemails
* No phone access to voicemail, you can change your outgoing message but NOT retrieve incoming voicemails at all. The ONLY way of getting voicemail messages is having them emailed to you
* No sending SMS from your account web pages. There is a separate web page for sending SMS which needs your username/pwd to be entered each time.
There are quite a lot more options than Sipgate for advanced users, and it was quite quick and easy to set up, but so far from a brief trial I don't think it's a total Sipgate replacement for me.
Also payment is various forms of direct debit; AFAICS no option to pre-pay a certain amount of credit (which is a useful precaution against VoIP account/phone getting hacked and running up huge bills).A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
