Problems with SSE - couple of questions

Hi
I've just had a series of problems with SSE and I'd appreciate some comments on a couple of questions.

In a nutshell, I moved into a rented house in late August with someone I knew, with the agreement that I would take over the house when she left. I took over the tenancy on 8th Oct, although the other person was still living there for a while. She said she was going to pay the final bills and transfer the SSE account for gas and electricity to my name.

It seems she didn't do this as I got a letter addressed to her and 'the Occupier' saying they would gain a Right of Entry warrant and install a prepayment meter on 5th Dec.

I rang SSE immediately and explained the situation, giving the last meter readings and emailing them the tenancy agreement in my name. I was assured the warrant would not be pursued.

But when I got home on Friday 5th Dec, they had entered the property and installed the prepayment meter - with no notice as far as I was concerned, as I'd been told it wasn't going to happen. Not only that, the person who installed it failed to put a seal in the joint, so it was leaking gas. Luckily I didn't go away for the weekend! An emergency gas engineer had to be called out to rectify the situation.

One question I have is - should they have left me a copy of the warrant? (obtained from the Magistrates Court).

Secondly a letter came through today addressed to the previous tenant saying that the transfer to another supplier had been cancelled as there was money still outstanding on the account.

I had already asked SSE to transfer the account to my name and said I would pay the bill as soon I received it. So do they have the right to cancel the transfer, when I'm the one who instigated it, not the previous tenant? It's their mistake that they haven't transferred the account to my name.

It's doubly annoying as the new supplier was part of a deal through this site's Cheap Energy Club, so I'm not sure whether I can still get the same deal if it's been cancelled by SSE.

Hope all of that makes sense, and any advice would be welcome :-)
