Is Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini still a good enough phone?

Options
Hello all, I have just been offered a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini by a guy I work with, he is getting a new phone.

Never had an Android phone before so just wondering before I buy it off him, is it still any good?

It would just be keeping me going until May next year when I plan on getting a contract phone.

Have you ever had a smartphone? If not, it's good enough for the first smartphone. How much?

If you need a better phone (why? - you haven't even tried yet), a contract isn't necessarily the cheapest way of getting it.

I recently started working for a supermarket and was going to get a contract with them as they are offering money off/extra minutes/texts etc. But can't do it until next year.

I have had a windows phone before but did not like it, so bought a Nokia N8 which I was happy with. Sold it a few months ago, atm I don't have a mobile. He is looking £70 for it.

IMO it's a reasonable price - depending on condition.
The cheapest new is £120+£10 from '3'

For the same £70 you can get a new Motrola Moto E that is the 'best value for money', newer, but worse in terms or specifications:

It was never a good phone in the first place, just trading on the Galaxy S4 name.
  • The S4 Mini is solid, I'd take it for £70 if it's in good condition.

It's a better phone than a Moto E, at similar money it would be a no-brainer, it has better specs in every department.

At new prices the only superior feature of the Moto E would be price.

At new prices you wouldn't be looking at a Moto E... Moto G at the least.
  • Battery is bit poor out of the box but with a decent rom such as Cyanogenmod its not too bad at all - and a good size in my opinion
  • I have this phone, IMO S4 mini is excellent phone in performance but slightly its hot while playing games. and battery life for samsung galaxy s4 mini is poor
