Can he declare it SORN and remove her from the insurance? I would have suggested cancelling the insurance, but then he'd be screwed if it was destroyed.
This is probably the action I'd take. Cancel the tax and the insurance. She can always insure herself seperately on the car but the tax will be a lot more difficult for her to deal with as she'd need the V5C for the car. The police should (in theory) pull the car over pretty quickly without tax at which point it will be impounded.
Also you need to remember the important bit. When the police/DVLA get in touch he needs to say he gave no permission for the car to be driven, had no knowledge of it being driven and as far as he was aware it was taken off the road.0 -

The op noted in one thread that the friend and his partner were not actually married, so the advice given to the female half about her rights to half of everything was wrong. She is entitled to NOTHING.
Good idea about SORNing the car. However, I would leave the insurance in place as it creates another issue in that you can only have 1 policy covering an insurance risk (in this case, the car) unless the additional policy covers the risk for other uses (for instance, Dominos Pizza have a commercial vehicle policy that provides business only use to any private vehicle being used by an employee for the purposes of delivery as long as the vehicle has passed their thorough vehicle examination).
The male who has been deprived of the use of the car must (if he hasn't already done so) do a change of address by sending in the V5. At the point he gets the new V5 back, he can declare SORN and will get back any un-used VED.
The Police will soon pick the car up as being un-Taxed and try to contact the owner. At this point, he will have the upper hand as he can tell them that the car was parked-up and that she has no authority o drive it.
Ok, it will cost him a fee to recover the car from the pound, but at least he will get it back and get the satisfaction of seeing her get prosecuted.Never Knowingly Understood.

Don't hold your breath whilst waiting for the Police picking up the untaxed car. New neighbours car wasn't taxed for 5 months and not stopped. He drove to work each day, when he realised and tried to tax it he got fined for no tax and not notifying them about his move.0

All's well that ends well.
Car had been moved by womans new bloke. Car got spotted. Friend gave permission to someone to pick it up & garage it.
So it's now in safe hands. Watch the poop hit the fan now0 -
Remember she has keys. Maybe at the very least program out the other key.0

Good idea, I came very close to having to do that myself last week when I thought I had lost a set of keys, turns out I had put them down in the boot of my fathers car as I was loading it up for him! d'oh!:rotfl:0 -
