Can't get car after relationship breakup. Advice?

Does his car insurance have legal cover? I'd speak to them.
Technically, you could just report it as stolen (whether you say she's got it or not), get a crime number and then give that to the insurance company to sort out.
He's stuck paying the finance until something else is done though; as he doesn't have access to the car to return. Really reporting it to the insurance company as stolen is the only option.0 -
Why would someone in the motor trade have a PCP?0

I wonder if he could apply to the High Court for a writ demanding the return of the car?.Never Knowingly Understood.

He went to the police to report it stolen but apparently they're not interested. The female police officer he spoke to threw her hands in the air & just said she didn't want to hear it & she'd advised the woman to just take out temporary insurance on it.0

Why not just go and take the car back? Hire a low loader if necessary.
Presumably because...JustAnotherSaver wrote: »The car is not at the womans or her new fellas (who she cheated on this bloke with). Her new fella is in the car sales business so will have contacts all over the place no doubt & will have plenty of places you could 'hide' a car.0 -
Oh i forgot.....
The car is in his name, everything is in his name & he got a letter from the DVLA informing him that she was trying to change ownership of the car. Obviously she couldn't do this because nothing is in her name. Why should the police be interested in a civil matter?
He reported it as stolen as it's his & he wants it back & she's refusing to give it up. Perhaps that isn't seen as stolen in the eyes of the law.Anyways, who's account are the payments coming from?Who's name is the registered keeper? Is it a case the person wants the car back through spite?Personally don't get involved in the drama,gilbert_and_sullivan wrote: »I'm afraid i can't be of any help here, your friend (presumably) needs the services of a lawyer and it's going to cost.Cancel the lease. Then its the lease companys problem.
So if i can no longer pay my mortgage, i can just say sorry guys i can no longer pay. Have the car & i'll not pay any more to you & we can just call it quits?Doubtless she will view it as part of her "settlement" and not accept a change anyway
Although she has "taken advice" & is entitled to half of absolutely everything, including his pension apparently. Why not just go and take the car back? Hire a low loader if necessary.
If he knew where it was.....TheVatican wrote: »Best thing for them is to go small claim court. It's a civil matter not a motoring IMO0 -

I can't understand why the police won't accept this is theft. She has taken the car without permission and won't give it back.
I'd be going to the police again and insisting they deal with it as a crime.
Get a crime number and report it to the insurers.0 -
It's a civil matter. Not criminal. It makes no difference as to who's name is on the paperwork. The advice of a solicitor is required, it's a dispute over ownership.
The sooner advice is sought the better.0 -
