Have just upgraded from an android tablet to an Ipad Air. Can anyone advise me on the best way to get files form pc onto the ipad, eg- I have season one of Breaking Bad on the pc (nothing to do with itunes) and I want to watch it on the ipad?

You would need to use iTunes to transfer any content on or off an iPad when you plug it into a computer. Other options include using an online service such as Dropbox.0

Can you recommend a program that will convert them into a file that itunes can recognise/use?0

There an app called Infuse, its free and lets you transfer over but have to watch via the app to, I use it all the time.0

I use Handbrake which is free. https://handbrake.fr/0

Another vote for Handbrake.
It has presets for the device you are converting for.

Apple wants you to go onto iTunes and buy Breaking Bad, just in case you're wondering why it's so difficult!0

Sorry to hijack the OP's thread but my question is very similar.
I'm also upgrading to an Ipad Air from an Android device. I have loads of mp3 albums and tracks on my old device. How would I transfer these to the Ipad? Would rather not go through itunes if possible. All advice appreciated. Thanks!

Going through iTunes is the best option.
Any reason you're keen to avoid this?
Any other solution is really a third party work around, officially, iTunes is the only way to transfer media.0 -
I've only used iTunes myself too, so can't advise on anything else. I've backed up all my music on pc and a separate hard drive, so that if anything goes wrong with iTunes, I've still got it.0

Yes, Handbrake is great, but it takes a long time to convert the files, and then you have two copies of each video.
You can get vlc media player as an ipad app. That will play most formats without having to convert them. You just use iTunes to transfer the file on to the ipad0
