Sneaky First Direct

I just needed to call First Direct from the mobile app as they needed to intervene with something I needed doing. Whilst I was impressed that the app automatically dialled FD for me, I was not so impressed that it dialled an 0845 number. Of course I hung up and manually dialled their 0113 number which is covered by my free minutes.
Not impressed. 0/10 for First Direct on this one.

Perhaps you should give them some 'formal' feedback?0

Bank with a bank where they will ring you instead.0

One reason for the bank not to use the 0113 number is that not all calls are dealt with in Leeds. It has another call centre at Hamilton in Scotland. Using an 0845 number helps it to balance workload between call centres and provides resilience if for any reason Leeds becomes uncontactable. (Though of course this could also be achieved with an 03xx number).0

The number to call is 03456 100 100, they added this number earlier this year. If you ask them to call you back, they will.0

The 03456 number is not used by the app, and you can't ask for a call back before the app starts dialling. It dials 0845 610 0242. It's very sloppy programming / sloppy requirements definition, and it's slightly mindboggling to read in the press that FD were among the first who got rid of 0845 when clearly they have not (0845 numbers are also still on their website). Somebody is telling porkies, either FD or the Press, or both.0 -

Don't know which website you use but this one has the 0345 number ?

What the op is saying is that the APP has the 0845 number hard coded into it, and it automatically dials that number which as he points out is not covered by his free minutes call plan.0

http://www2.firstdirect.com/1/2/money-worries
...gives two 0845 contact numbers, one if you've "money worries"(!), and another for 'general' 24/7 chit-chat.
So FD needs to do both a tidy up on their website, and update their App (by the sound of it).0
