Currency changed on some sites from pounds to dollars?

Morning I hope someone can help me here.
Yesterday I clicked through from the grabbit board to browse the Mountain Warehouse site only to find that I was on the US site and everything was priced in dollars. I couldn't figure out how to change it back to UK so just left the site. I did think it was strange so tried another couple of UK sites and everything seemed in order.
I then went to browse Debenhams and was prompted to choose between Debenhams International or UK. I don't recall being asked to make this choice before. Something just didn't 'feel' right.
What really bothers me is that last night I tried to pay for something using paypal but the request was cancelled. The message I got was something along the lines of 'this request cannot be completed from another country'. I should have taken note of exactly what it said before logging out.
My paypal account seems to be in order as does my bank account (thank heavens!) but I'm really confused as to what's gone wrong. I'm very security conscious and always cautious online so this has got me very worried.
I've spent time browsing the web to try to find an answer but no luck so I'm hoping that someone here can figure out what's going on.
Thanks so much

PC what country are you set to likewise browser .
Region in PC settings .0 -
Double checked that country/region is set to UK in settings
Not sure how to check browser settings?0 -
As a test, what happens if you go to the bbc.co.uk website?
If it changes to bbc.com, then it might be that either your browser or internet service provider , or possibly some security software are making it look as if you are in another country. Which browser are you using? If that is happening, some of the comments on this thread may help.0 -
Hi and thanks for both replies.
The bbc website opens as bbc.co.uk so this seems to be okay.
I use google chrome and sometimes internet explorer. I was using chrome yesterday when the changes occurred.
I've certainly not intentionally made any changes to any settings recently.
I'll go and have a read on the thread as advised - thanks for your help.
