BTL - Jeremy Vine show on now

BBC Radio 2

The trailers have been misleading and deceitful. Maybe the show will be as appalling as most of his others.

:)

80,000 landlords not paying enough tax
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.
  • In the trailers he stated that you had to pay tax first before paying the mortgage - blatant sensationalisation.

Should be an interesting list of allowable expenses. Started with interest and travel to/from the property. Mine is 340 miles away.

Because 70,000 of them don't know their ar5e from their elbows.

Amateur BTL is the catalyst for many of societies ills. Not directly, but indirectly. People on low wages not being able to afford a home has a huge knock on effect on the country as a whole.
  • A bit like the so-called expert. He has just advised a LL that she doesn't need to file a tax return because she is not making a profit. Wrong.

  • On e thing that was quite interesting was CGT avoidance. The expert said that if you live in the property for as little as a week you can avoid £40K of CGT and the last three years of gain. How would they calculate the last three years of gains. Should I have my BTL valued annually and keep written records?

If true, my potential £28K CGT bill could be wiped out and the keep/sell equation tilts towards a sell.

    :)

That sounded very unlikely to me, but he said it came off the HMRC website.

Good, it's not just me that finds him grating on me and being confrontational for the sake of it. Often misinformed also.

I look forward to the times He's on holiday and we get a fill in, otherwise it's just a two hour gap from Pop master until the Steve wright Show :)

Yeah, he's likeable enough, but it makes me cringe when he starts being confrontational without even knowing what he's talking about. But then I guess he gts paid to be devils advocate. On another note, I wish they would give Mark Radcliffe a proper slot during the day on radio 2. Thought he was great covering for Steve Wright last week, and has infinitely better music taste too. He even refused to play certain songs from the radio 2 'A-list' on the grounds that they were clearly crap!
