OS Daily Thread for Saturday 6th December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Good morning everyone :santa2:

I've been up for hours with indigestion after a cheeky chicken kebab last night, won't be eating that again for sure :(. I was hoping someone would start this thread so thank you Hester.

I've caught my daughter's cold so I don't feel brilliant and will be going back to bed at some point this morning. Hubby and the girls will manage fine as it's his turn to cook today anyway....not that I will be eating much today.

Grandchildren are at their dad's house for the weekend so we will miss them but hubby gets a lie-in. I'm going to church tomorrow if I'm well enough as I haven't been for a few weeks and really miss everyone. There is a candlelit carol service next week but the church gets so packed out I can't cope with it so will give it a miss this year. It is a beautiful service though and most people bring a gift to donate to our local Women's Refuge.

Hope everyone manages to have a good day and if your poorly then have a nice germy hug from me :rotfl:. Take care xx

Another early start for me but as I have lots to do today I don't mind.

The WM is on, it won't disturb the neighbours as it's on the exterior wall & anyway they run theirs overnight & it's on our adjoining wall.

I have some shelves & a desk arriving sometime today, between 7am & 8pm so one of us will have to stay in until they have arrived.

I'm going to do some quiet housework until hubby gets up.

Have a good day everyone.

Hugs Hester

HH - Do you ever sleep?!
Dumpling - I hope you feel better soon.

I was baking till 10pm for friends Guides christmas fair, made christmas tree and star biscuits and lots of iced buns, the icing 'slipped' a bit but I'm sure someone will have them!

Going into Glasgow early this morning, picking up a friend on the way and will drop DD at work. Hoping to be back at home by 12, lots to do today. The washing appears to be fairly up to date but I could do with dusting and throwing the hoover about, the bathrooms could do with cleaning too. Heck, I think I'll just do it all!

Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX

Mr tru had a long lie-in, we didn't leave the house til 11.30am. By the time we'd shopped, put it all away and had lunch, it was 2pm. My sore throat came to nothing and the achiness was PMS – thankfully a shortened version, it usually lasts 2-3 days but this was only about 12 hours :D Mr tru sorted the freezers while I crocheted, ate chocolate and grumbled about not being able to get comfy :D

Very frosty this morning so I'll be staying indoors. I'll be chasing up my non-delivery, I'm waiting for some large jiffy bags. The company is usually good so it's just a blip rather than them being rubbish. The washing will be slung over the radiators and I need to tidy and hoover the kitchen. Then go through my lists (oh I love my lists!) and add things to them :D

Thank you HH for today's thread, neither of us could sleep either, we could have had a party:rotfl:

Dumpling hope you feel better soon

Tru thank you for today's carol, Ilove it.

Well we went into town yesterday so DD to do what she needed, and it was fairly chaotic, and that was a Friday, I dread o think what today will be like. We are just going to Sainsbobs today because I have £50 in nectar points so I thought I would stock up the store cupboard and look for a nic piece of gammon for Christmas.

I have taken to not eating wheat and gluten in bread, cake and biscuits and have felt so much better for it. Yesterday I had 2 shortbread biscuits and I have suffered ever since. I am a fool to myself but sometimes I lack will power:eek: Within an hour I feel sick and that goes on all day, so back on the straight and narrow today.

Molly hope you are feeling a little better.
Hugs to all poorlies and take care

Have a good day everyone

Morning all,

Up early for me on a Saturday as its my weekend at work, quite looking forward to it today actually as Santa is coming :jhopefully I will get to sit on his knee :D should be a busy day and I love seeing the excitement on the little ones faces over all the lights etc.

OH in charge of domestics so not sure whats for dinner I will get something out of the freezer after this.

Finished all but one of my Xmas shopping yesterday so I can start the dreaded wrapping now, actually I may have an evil plan :D:cool: mum is coming to stay here next week and she cant move much due to her knee so I think I will sit her down with a pile of presents and ask her to wrap them :rotfl:

Right better get on, have good days all xx

Morning all

There's a hard frost today glad I don't need to out just yet

Present wrapping is on my agenda for today too, I have already done 2 bouts of wrapping , I find it easier to do it in smaller batches as I sit on the floor with everything round me and I tend to get backache after a while  also if I do to many in one go I end up throwing the paper on :rotfl:

Well my kitchen is spotless, so I'm moving onto my bedroom and going to sort through all the drawers. I think I need to keep busy To keep my mind off things

I'm going to make my xmas pud today if I can persuade DH to go and get me the missing ingredients :D
Both DDs went to xmas parties at their unis last night so I'm not expecting to hear from them any time soon although dd1 did text to say she was at home at half past 2 this morning , that's early for her for a night out :rotfl:

Dh took out the free trial with @mazon pr1me last month intending to cancel it before the month was up , with everything that has happened he forgot and now we have been stung with a £79 bill  be warned if you take up the offer make sure you put a reminder on your calendar or phone to make sure you cancel

Off to have some breakfast. Have a good day everyone xx
• Morning all, I would like to start taking part in this thread if that's ok. It would be good to have the company as I work towards a better quality life for me and OH but with less money coming in.

Today's plans are:
Get house tidied
Laundry done
Ironing done
Phone HMRC
Pay OHs Car Tax

I also need to finalise a few Christmas gifts.

Just popping in when I saw this.......do try contacting Amazon and telling them it's a mistake, my Dad clicked the button last year cos he wanted quick delivery and didn't realise what he was signing up for. When he saw the credit card charge on his statement he contacted them and they cancelled and refunded. I know this is a diffenrtm reason but it's always worth a go.

Morning everyone.

Gosh, it's awful outside. Grey, wet and no doubt cold. Was down to two degrees yesterday.

I was tucked up in bed fairly early last night, didn't go out as planned. OH drove up late last night so I got the spare bed ready, put on the electric blanket, left a flask of tea by the bed and went off to sleep. He probably got back well after 1am so I'm not going to wake the sleeping giant.

Now he's here it will probably mean he's going to clear out the garden outbuilding :j I want metal shelving put up for proper storage (loo rolls and tins) and maybe a little chest freezer. Just now it's a higgedly-piggedly collection of old garden tools all just against the wall. I also want a proper 'potting' table. It's looking good for clear out Saturday.

We're not big on Christmas so there's not a lot of wrapping or shopping or card writing going on. :j Immediate family (and there are fewer and fewer of them) get what's called 'a minding'. Kids are now adults and mostly overseas. The joy and beauty of Christmas is being with family. OH's parents both died about five years ago, my dad is long gone and my mum, well, she's 87 and who knows.

Now, I am still in bed. No shame!

Hope everyone is doing well.
