Question regarding Tenancy Deposit

I'm soon to be handing in the notice on my tenancy. When I originally moved in to the property, I was sharing with someone so we split the deposit 50/50. Tell the ll to pay you back by bank transfer and claim the deposit from the scheme. Think that's the quickest way to resolve this

The LL is fairly clueless, they rely pretty heavily on the LA, and they are not the easiest people to deal with.

The original tenant did send a letter to the LA telling them they had moved out, it was all done officially, so I'm not sure why the LA didn't advise us on what to do with regards to the deposit.
