OS Daily Thread Friday 5th December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all
Very cold here this morning, I've been awake since 3, made hbby & I a cuppa at 3:30, gave in & got up at 4, DW has just finished, WM still chugging away. I've tidied the living room & found my rotary cutter as I need to cut some fabric out tonight after work.
Had a visit from a friend last night, he's having problems with his wife, she's very possessive, she can't bear him to have friends, tries to stop him seeing his grown up daughter & he only gets to see us because we live next door to his place of work so he pops in for 10 minutes when he finishes & blames it on the traffic. He's had 6 weeks of screaming rows because his daughter left a message on his mobile & his wife listened to it.
I'm glad it's Friday, no visiting DGC's this weekend so lots of sleep, housework & Hestering is on the cards.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark here, dry but still cold.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work.
Dinner last night was a bit disjointed – spoke to DH yesterday morning and he’d asked for sausage, egg, beans and chips for dinner, so I got the sausages out to defrost before going in to work for the training session, then in the middle of the afternoon, he rang to say don’t worry about doing a big meal, I was really cold so I got some hot food at lunchtime. Not particularly a problem, so boys had the planned sausage, egg, beans and chips, DH had egg on toast and I had sausage, egg, jacket potato and beans. Tonight I don’t have a clue but will be going to do the normal food shop this morning so will pick something up then.
This morning I will heading to the bank, then visiting a couple of places in town before going to the SM for the food shop.
Yesterday afternoon I managed to get the washing, drying and ironing up to date, although I think there’s more in the basket this morning – I’ll get that in the WM in a mo and it might be finished before I go out so will then get it in the TD and it’ll be dry by the time I get back ready to either be folded/ironed and put away. I didn’t get any housework done, so will endeavour to get that done today, then I want to try to get some baking/cooking done, I haven’t done my usual weekly baking since before I broke my foot so that was in the summer. I must get back into that – as it means the menfolk have a dessert if they want it each evening or bits to take for pack ups etc and is so much cheaper and nicer than buying it.
Have good Friday’s everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Baubles obviously aren't my thingI've given up trying to make fancy ones and have just used red, white and green, they're pretty much the same as I made last year. They're not round either, they're flattish

We're going shopping this morning. We'll be staying in this afternoon, mr tru has had a cold and every time he led down he coughed like crazy. He's been trying to sleep sitting up for a week but it's not helped much, lol. He'll probably have a lie-in this morning. I told him to keep his man-germs to himself but I woke up this morning feeling a bit achy and with a sore throat. I don't often get a bad cold, I usually get away with being a bit sniffly and achy for a couple of days. Hopefully that's what'll happen this time

:xmastree:Good morning all,
Thank you Hester for starting the thread, sorry you didn't have much sleep.
Tru thank you for the lovely carol. To be honest Tru I think a lot of is is "put on". He knows I love Christmas, and always have and I think he does it to wind me up. We have been married 48 years so you would think he would know it won't make a scrap of difference to me. He is a lovely man and will do anything for me except admit he likes Christmas:rotfl:
Taking DD into town this morning becsusse she wants her hair cut and eyebrows threaded. Whilst she is having that done we will have a look round but to be honest I only need some bread from M&S, their gluten free bread is lovely.
We will meet in Debenhams later for a coffee.
It sounds as though it is going to be a cold weekend so wrap up warm.
Have a good day

Morning all!
It's nice to be back
My cat's been confirmed as having diabetes so I'll be learning how to give him insulin on Monday. Meantime, I've got some kind of bug so I'm having another quiet day at home writing and working on my blog.
OS - I'll probably be knitting on Christmas presents
Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning All
Welcome Anna, great place this!
Usual chores done/to do, started painting my bedroom, the grey looks a little dark so not sure what to do. The door is now finished and may have to put that back on as that room is making upstairs cold, where is the builder when you need him!
HH - Your poor friend, at least he has you to talk to. Hope hubby's toes are healing.
sistercas - Glad things went as well as they could. Your Mum must be a worry for you at the moment.
tru - one of my favourite Christmas songs today, not sure about a Christmas owl though!
It's Friday, have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Hello xx
So sorry not to be posting much but am reading and thinking of you all x
Hester - enjoy your weekend - you deserve it x
Sistercas and Redruby - thinking of you both and families xx
It has been a roller coaster week for me. First supervised visit (by me) of aunts to see Dad - gosh I really don't like them but need to do my best by Dad. Anyway straight after and next day he became very agitated and went down hill so no more visits planned. We got the doctor in and she agreed. I have done my best - oh this power of attorney is hard work.
Then on Tuesday I had a 5 hour hospital appointment - yes 5 hours. I lost it at the end as I am want to do when my pain levels reach fever pitch but was very well cared for by a lovely nurse who calmed me down and moved me on to see the doctor. I am waiting for an op - not the London one - and it might be in Christmas week:eek::eek::eek::eek: so I'm gonna try and organise xmas asap!!!
Then yesterday I fell down in the space between the bed and the the wall and could not move. Luckily the boys moved me eventually but very shaken and stiff this morning. Oh Dear - physio this morning!
Molly and Pops up to their usual antics - Molly has found her inner puppy again at 11 years old:T:T:T She is on B12 now weekly.
Hugs for a good day xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning everybody,
Welcome Anna,
I am back to taking the dog out myself now,my knee is much better -just as well as Ds has a stinker of a cold and doesnt really feel up to it.DGD didnt come last night either as she has an ear infection and is on antibiotics :(She is meant to be staying tonight but we'll wait and see what her Mummy says.
I made lamb curry last night in the pressure cooker,it was lovely and tender and only took 15 mins- I :heartsmil my pressure cooker.Got my replacement Christmas cake done,it looks a lot better than the ones in the loaf tins :rotfl:but we've eaten one between us now anyway, just chucked the chewy ends away.
Right better go,have a good day all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morning all,
Quick one from me as we are just off Christmas shopping for the day.
Anna so sorry to hear about the diabetes its a bit of a shock at first, you will very soon get used to doing the jabs, (we had to inject little dog twice a day) the diabetes can be easily managed. Unfortunately we lost her last week (not down to the diabetes) but old age and other complications, its heartbreaking but we did the very best for her as I am sure you will xx
Ok better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone :santa2:
It's a cold and wet morning here today, Mr T has just dropped off my shopping for the week. It was only a few crates worth today as I really need to get the freezers down. I have stocked up on tissues and orange juice for my poor DD14 who is currently sitting next to me with a streaming cold, poor thing looks dreadful and has had a couple of days off school with it.
It was DD12's birthday yesterday and it went well except for DD13 having a touch of the green-eyed monster. She can't bear any of her sisters to have attention on them, always been the same since she was a little girl. I love her to bits though, she is really finding puberty difficult. DD12 loved her presents and cards and money and is making grand plans on what to spend it on.
Well my weightloss is still going great, I lost another pound and a half this week despite our anniversary and DD12's party so I'm very pleased. I am having a day without bread today as I ate a lot of it yesterday and suffered with chronic indigestion all night. I need to give my tummy a bit of a rest so I am having porridge for breakfast, a jacket potato with tuna for lunch and some fishcakes and salad for tea. Hubby has requested a Fray Bentos pie with mash and veg and the girls want pasta carbonara! I don't normally make all different meals for everyone but I have plenty of time today to do it.
I'm going to be looking after my grandson this morning as it's my eldest daughters payday and she wants to get a small tattoo on her wrist of her son's name. She is having a star I think and she has a butterfly on her other wrist with her daughters name in it. I like tattoos and have 3 myself, I would like one more but they are so expensive.
Well that's all my waffle for today, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to and all the poorlies recover quickly, take care xx0
