Best TV?

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/s_action/compare/10002087-22074703-22094677-10004775.html

Can some technical, gadget, geek help me decide please?

Kind of leaning towards the Samsung because of the 5.1 sound?

Thank you

No amount of gimmicky audio decoding is not going to make a TV panel sound nice.

If you are not going to be using eternal speakers then you will need to go and listen to them, spec tell you nothing. And if you are going to be using externals the amp will do the decoding properly.

The Panasonic. Bigger than the LGs and cheaper than one of them.
It has an ARC HDMI port which the Samsung lacks, and it seems to have a fancier remote. I also like the stand better and from personal experience I have 1 Pana TV with better sound than 1 Samsung TV.
This is all of course just from spec sheet without actually comparing the pictures on the TVs!
Not much in between those 2 to be honest, I'd be happy with either.

So to confirm then... The panasonic allows me to use external speakers because of the ARC?

Go along and listen, as sound seems to be very personal.

Within a block of reviews you can find comments ranging from tinny sound to excellent.

Also, if you go to somewhere like Richer Sounds, you can have a demo within a room, instead of an open sales floor.

Every one of those TVs can be connected to soundbars, AV amps etc.. ARC is just one way of doing it.

It will mean one less cable if using other ARC compatible equipment, not really an issue with domestic set ups and short cable runs.

Can however be handy if some one at first fix only put in HDMI, coax and power to wall plates.

I know ARC isn't mentioned for the Samsung in the Currys spec, but I think one of its HDMI inputs is ARC compatible.

I'm a Panasonic fan, but have to say that I think the picture is better on this year's Samsung TVs in this kind of size/price range (as far as I've been able to tell in the shops). Of course, that's just me and when it comes to TVs, one should only ever believe ones own eyes and ears.

Also depends what the OP is really looking for in a TV, if it's 5.1 sound for movies then with this size of screen, I would think an AV amp or at minimum a soundbar is recommended.

Well i visited Currys today and have to say im disappointed with the Panasonic tv. The LG s looked much better. The stand looked ugly on the panasonic!

Think i will go with this one. http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/televisions/large-screen-tvs-32-and-over/lg-42lb700v-smart-3d-42-led-tv-10002087-pdt.html#cat-0

Lets hope Boxing day sales slash the prices!

Are you really going to let stand aesthetics influence your choice of TV?

Thats part of it. It wont be on the wall so the stand will be used. Preferred the picture on the LG too.

You can't trust the picture you see in shops. They are never set up properly and are usually in garish shop mode, not the correct settings for actual watching TV.
