Refund on to joint debit card, query !

Earlier in the month we purchased Christmas lights that we're faulty from The Range.
In between then and returning the item today my partners chip in his bank card has failed and the bank ordered him a new card and detroyed the damaged one.
Today we asked for a refund and after calling a manager to ok the refund despite the lights being tested I gave them my card and explained that it was a joint account as my partners card was cut up due to being faulty. The manager refused us a refund because I couldn't t prove that
my card was conncted to the card on the receipt. I pointed out that my card had 2 on the bottom meaning it was a 2nd card but she wouldn't have it. I said I woulbt know how I could prove that the cards were linked to the account and she said we should have kept his card. I explained that we had had a refund from both Tesco and primark and it wasn't a problem, she then said it was fraud to refund into a different account.
After an argument she told the girl to call "Julie" which she did and she said it was fine !
Before I write to complian about the fiasco would anyone know who's right and who's wrong ??
Many thank as usual !

Pretty often both cards are identical except the name. If so, you should have just used the card for the refund without any explanation. Also, as the old card was destroyed, not lost/stolen, the new one possibly has the same number.
Regardless, if the original card was lost/stolen/expired etc. they should have processed the refund using the original number they had or, failing that, to the new card.0 -
Whatever the rights and wrongs there is no way that it is fraud to refund to a different card, so the person saying that was a fool without any idea what they are talking about.0

Our cards have different last 4 digets. (Santander cards) I only explained straight off because she took the card off me to check the numbers. I only metiined it being a joint account account because primark had queued it and as soon as I said it was a joint account they were fine. He hasn't received his new card yet but we work shifts and today was the only day we both were able to get a replacement or as it turned out refund before christmas x0 -

One of the reasons retailers are advised to refund to the same card is to prevent money laundering (as you can move money between people/accounts seemingly legitimately by paying on one card and refunding to another).
So it could fall in to a wider definition of fraud, and the cashier was probably just a little bit confused by the wider points of criminal things you can do with money

Saying that it was a fraud just because they are advised to refund to the same card is a sheer incompetence, not to say stupidity. It's very common when the original card doesn't exist anymore, and this obviously can't be a reason for refusing a refund.0

I work at Iceland and we don't refund back on to debit or credit cards and refund by cash only. Just imagine all that laundered money going thorugh each day !0 -

I didn't make any comment as to the competence of the employee. That said, I have worked at retailers whose systems physically cannot refund to an alternative card... If you try, you get an error message that you can't bypass. The reasons for that were the above, and that you wouldn't get a refund on merchants fees if refunded to a different card.loobyloo168 wrote: »I work at Iceland and we don't refund back on to debit or credit cards and refund by cash only. I also didn't make any comment as to how sensible it was as advice. It has been part of the training at many retailers I've worked at. It's common practice to refund to original purchase card only.0 -

so did they process the refund, and if so is this now a non-issue?The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

Wait for your partner's new card to arrive and send him, with his nice new card, to get the refund.
He alone paid for the item. He alone should receive the refund.
Hang on, are you saying in the last few days alone he's had refunds from Tesco & Primark too?
I could ask for you to post the evidence, but I doubt that will ever happen...0 -
All the information the shop have is the card number. This card doesn't exist anymore, but there is an old card very similar, and there will be a similar new card soon.He alone paid for the item. He alone should receive the refund.

Now tell me, please, from the shop's point of view, what is a difference between the two cards?0
