As much as we only have the OP's word that they looked after it

Also , In the op its stated they were advised it was suitable for everyday wear. That could be interpreted in many ways by the wearer.

I'm not sure as per diamond geezers post how anyone can have " sort" ( sought? ) mediation .. By small claims. Surely it's a court case not mediation?

Really not sure about this case at all.

Just to answer a few of the questions....

My Wife has an office job in the NHS - typing, meetings, carrying bits of paper, nothing exciting or heavy duty. She has always taken her rings off whilst doing housework, and doesn't take part in any extreme activities. It really doesn't get any more 'everday' than this.

The picture posted may well be the actual ring. I don't remember it being that marked when it was returned, but didn't take my own picture. Certainly the ring was marked, but no more so than my Wifes other rings, which have never needed repair.

In a further twist to the story, my Wife wore the ring for 3 days in New York last week, and on the flight home found a cracked amethyst. This is the only time that the ring has been worn since it's return, and it wasn't exactly under a lot of stress. There is clearly some issue with the amethyst stones in this setting.

I've never heard of anyone taking off their rings to do housework. Perhaps that's just me though.

To be honest, I never take my rings off for any sort of work, manual or clerical!

Surely things like wedding, engagement and eternity rings are created to be worn full time?

My deceased gran's engagement ring, which I also wear, has been through the London Blitz, 3 house bombings, worn since the 1920's, and all that has been done with it is to clean it in gin periodically! It still looks beautiful, after all these years.

I would not be happy with a ring that looks as shabby as that one does after only 7 months.

    Lin
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

What metal is that made from? Did the OP's wife wear it for work? If so, what type of work? Or other activities? It looks like it has had a very hard life over a short period! Perhaps a full eternity doesn't fit with her lifestyle; they are not for everyone.

Has the OP answered this question?

I am not sure as well. But see a Diamond Geezer, is that not a reference to EBENEEZER GOODE. A song by British group THE SHAMEN?
This company was featured (a lot of years ago) on Dragons Den.
He got the full offer he wanted for the % of his company he wanted, then declined the offer. smiley-confused013.gif
Good advertisement for the company though. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

I've never bought from this company but they have a pretty good education section on the 4 Cs.

Personally, I think the reply from Diamond Geezer does not put them in the best light.
It comes across as sarcastic and dismissive.

They mention 'cloudy stones' in between 2 missing stones.
    What does that mean?
Were the stones inferior when placed in the ring?
Are Diamond Geezer suggesting that this 'cloudiness' is damage caused by the OP's wife.

The OP - in his 2nd post - mentions a broken amethyst.
Amethysts are 7 on the Mohs Scale (hardness) - diamonds are 10 and rubies/sapphires are 9.
So maybe not the best choice stone for a full eternity ring intended to be worn on a daily basis, even in a job/lifestyle as that described by the OP.

Reading the posts again, if it was me , and stones in my eternity ring broke, so soon, would I be happy to have to pay £ 75? No.

Therefore I think it's facetious for diamond geezer to state they " gifted " the labour.

It does seem diamond geezer are more concerned about how this is putting them to inconvenience and cost, rather than resolving the ops problems.
As for the photo of the ring, if the close up shows damage/ wear to the metal, who's to say this isn't caused by various things, including a poor quality stone being ejected from the casing? Who's to say any close up of a similarl age ring wouldn't look the same. Or who's to say the metal isn't at fault?

If that photo really is the ring the OP bought for his wife and it's made out of say, 18 carat white gold, then it's had some serious knocking about to cause the damage that we can see.

I've added some more to my previous post.
Has the op taken this ring to get any third party opinions?
As was recommended by little elvis on this thread

"won't be a case of catching the claws. My wife has an office job, no extreme hobbies and always takes the ring off when cleaning, etc. She genuinely doesn't do anything that wouldn't be considered 'everyday use'."

But i notice the op seems to holiday quite a lot also takes part in snow boarding?
So you're quite active people in your leisure time?

    Op says in another post
" If it's a one off I'd rent the ski equipment. It'll have had some action, but if you haven't been for years there's no point forking out a fortune, and lugging it out th

Stuff like waterproofs can be picked up from eBay. Some stuff will only have seen a weeks use, and will happily do another week. You can probably sell it on when you get home. Now is probably a good time to buy, it gets more expensive when the season starts.

As for flights, we've flown London to Geneva the past few years with BA. Flights are around £120, so if you can get them around that price I'd book. They're unlikely to get any cheaper. BA don't surcharge for sports equipment, you get one bag at 23kg. We take our snowboard bags, filled with boards and clothes and check it in as our allowance.

Have fun, we've had some good holidays in "

    And
"When we go snowboarding we use a cable tie, but then leave another one in the top of the bag. If Customs cut the cable tie off to look in the bag, they have always re-secured it with the second tie. "

In addition , you do seem to have a lot of rough and tumble around the issue of jewellery .
The burglary a year ago and then the sil who stole antique jewellery from you.
If I was your wife, I wouldn't take my jewellery off to do housework. I'd keep it on! Unless it was attached to my body by a strong cable tie.
    Just sayin..

Re the link to the thread in post #19, I wonder why the OP didn't tack this onto to the end of that for continuity? smiley-confused013.gif

A lot of the questions asked are answered in that thread.

    Apparently the ring is platinum.
I googled platinum hardness versus 18 carat gold and just got confused about which was hardest.

Maybe the wife has caught the ring on an office drawer or filing cabinet?
This happened to a work colleague of mine.
