I'm (I was) an agency contractor who is receiving stat mat payments.

    Here is full info

The main thing is to be with your agency for at least 26 weeks.

    Thank you all!

I had already had a look into the MA and I don't see why I should not be able to work with them for 26 weeks before I am 26 weeks pregnant.

Thank you View its good to know someone else has done it! I just worry that I will get less shifts offered to me as its agency but luckily got myself on to a package so that I work 3 days every week just in case there was ever a dip in the number of jobs being offered!

yes it can be done as long as you work for 26 weeks with the agency, no breaks. Bear in mind also you need to give official notice to the agency so they can provide dates and figures to HMRC. Put reminders in your calendar and make sure the agency does it on time. They take a 'fixed period' over your pregnancy to work out the stat mat figures so this is very important.

What I would say also, is what helped us, was to buy something every pay. Nappies, clothes, cotton wool buds it doesn't matter, just stock up when you're receiving full pay and you won't notice it, rather than have a huge expense at the end.

    Best of luck

Wouldn't it make more sense to put money aside every month and buy stuff when needed?

  • I agree ^^ you don't know what nappies will be best and how quickly baby will grow out of them. I didn't stockpile anything but did have cash set aside. Perhaps buy vouchers if you think you'd spend the money?

if you're the type of person who can do this then perhaps, we personally found it very sensible to buy things each pay when there were specials on things we knew we would need, and am hugely thankful now we're down to stat pay that we have these things to drawn upon.

We bought different sized nappies, knowing that some would fit. If they happened to be too small we didn't stockpile too many and would donate them to a children's charity. You will never use enough cotton wool, paper towel etc..
