OS Daily Thread Thursday 4th December
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark here, much colder still.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash, LO braised red cabbage, LO Yorkshires, carrots, broccolli, HG green beans and peas – all eaten and enjoyed, and 1 x portion in a pot and 1 x portion of gravy in a pot, now safely in the freezer. Tonight I’m not sure what we will be eating but will organise it later.

Today I have to go into work for a training session for this morning – not happy about this arrangement along with a lot of my colleagues who are in the same situation but a management decision has been made and they won’t listen (as per usual). (When this change was made it was made because they quoted if we move the training day to a Thursday from Wednesday there’s more people that are available for training due to some of the offices being closed on a Thursday – but most of those people are not contracted to work on a Thursday) – the last session I went to that 7 people in it and 6 of those people had all had to go in on their day off and 1 of those was telling me of all the other people that were affected and she’d counted up and it was 17 people across the team that we could name – no doubt there are more, all it’s done is cause more anger and resentment across the team as a whole and there’s more going on at the moment – bosses being made redundant where there’s a wealth of knowledge and real operational experience – being replaced by someone that has practically no knowledge or operational experience! We’ll see! Anyway enough of work.

Got home yesterday and did the couple of chores that I normally do, and did get a couple of loads in the WM, also used the TD as it’s just not drying outside, have another load ready to go into the TD – will put that in when I leave for work and it’ll be dry by the time I get back, I think there’s just enough for another load so will do that too. Need to do the ironing and the housework – so will try to tackle the ironing when I get home and then see about doing the housework.

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

Not sure what the weather's doing, still very dark outside! Yesterday was ok, just some drizzle about 6pm. DD met me from work and we went to Costc0, Mr Ts (for a nosey) and N£xt where I got some quilt covers for my new bedroom and ordered some curtains. Bedroom is nowhere near ready for these things you understand, it still needs new floorboards!

Sorted all the christmas stuff when we got home, just a couple of 'man' things to get and I'm sorted. Definitely not bought as much this year for as many folk so feeling good about that.

Washing on the airers, just put yesterday's in the TD for 10 mins to air off, will fold that in a minute. DW doing its stuff, house still a tip but I'm happy!

Can't believe it's Thursday already, onwards! Take care. XX

Is it bedtime yet? I drove 45 miles yesterday, not far I know, but it was all in a 3 mile triangle!
Hubby did a split shift due to staff shortages so worked 6:30 to 1 & then 6 to 10 & is now back at work at 6:30 again
Tru, thank you, your song sets me up for the day.
I too tired to think of anything else to say.
    Have a good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Hello

This is my first post so I should introduce myself - My screen name is Anna, I'm in my forties and live in Scotland. I'm very interested in Old Style living and, as I'm unable to work just now, MoneySaving. I've been reading these boards for a while and find them really informative and motivating. Now it's time to join in!

Still dark outside and the house seems cold so I'm guessing it's cold outside. It is December, after all!

My plan for the day involves a bit of housework, a visit to my place of worship, bit of studying, making plans for 2015 (I love doing this at the close of the year), phone the vet to get some test results (it looks like my wee man has diabetes), bit of reading, bit of writing,, bit of blogging, bit more study and lastly going through some old magazines for ideas.

Hope you all have good, MSE-OS days!

Still dark down here. Had brekkie and will go for a swim at 8am, then off for our first visit to our allotment, now that we have signed up for it. Plan to take some photos and have drawn a diagram. Offer of some plants in the spring from a friend too.

Welcome Anna, I'm sure you will find lots of help and inspiration from the welcoming and friendly folk on here.

Take care all, hugs where needed, some of us are having a tough time at present.

    Morning everyone.

Loving the carols still Tru - thanks for them.

Another chilly day. Time in Edinburgh yesterday was fine, good work meeting and then a mooch around the 'european' market in Princes Gardens. Mostly wooden toys, things with candles and bars, not as good as previous years, however I got most of what I went for and wasn't tempted to buy anything else.

Managed to have a late afternoon snooze yesterday to catch up on my lost sleep and feel better for it. Think my cold has settled in for the season so need to up the olbas oil factor! Slept well last night too though it was a struggle to get up this morning. Being awake at 5.15a.m. isn't normally a problem but today I would have given anything for another half hour under the duvet.

Spotted that a comedian who played a lot in Newcastle (but is Scottish) is doing a gig at a local village hall tomorrow night so, on impulse, booked to go. Probably by the time 7.00pm comes round tomorrow I'll want to be in my jimjams and not wanting to go out. However, I WILL do it! Vladimir McTavish is such a great name and he always used to make me laugh so I will enjoy it. BYO booze and nibbles too so no great expense there.

Right, back to work. No-one else in yet so I can get my head down for a little while. Excitement is high as the christmas do is tomorrow night. I never go to office parties :j and now got Vladimir to look forward to.

Hope everyone is well or doing better. Keep warm folks.

Welcome Anna sounds like you've come to the right place, it's lovely on here

Back home now, the service was lovely and the church was packed , he had a good send off. The DDs did really well . My mum looked shattered yesterday I didn't like leaving her at all but she's stubborn and won't come to my house for a bit as much as I wanted her too  my sister is going on Friday to see her and I will be back down the following weekend and hopefully my brother can go in between as well. Still she is a worry she looks so frail. The good news is we have her on the high priority housing list as she is very isolated where she is now , so hopefully we can get her a nice flat that's easy to Heat and maintain and close to civilization :)

Need to do some food shopping , hardly got anything in .
The washing is done I've done 2 loads already this morning , the piggy and cat are fed

Have a good day everyone xx
