Although the rest of his post is a very accurate description of Albany Assistance...'Legal Cover' with Admiral is with Albany Assistance and I already explained in my post above that they dont do anything to help reclaim losses, only want to sell you a hire car; as useful as a chocolate teapot.0 -

Well it certainly was last time I used them. I had a no fault claim and was told by Admiral/Elephant that I had to use Albany Assistance. This was about 4 years ago. I wonder who they use now then?0 -
Here's a post from just last year and Admiral were still using Albany Assistance:

As previously posted you misunderstand..... I had a no fault claim and was told by Admiral/Elephant that I had to use Albany Assistance. This was about 4 years ago. I wonder who they use now then?
Albany are an accident management company - nothing to do with admiral's "legal cover" which is for uninsured loss recovery.
You were directed to Albany to deal with your claim (thereby avoiding you claiming off your policy).0 -
As previously posted, I had insured and uninsured (my excess I guess) losses and Admiral said I had to use Albany Assistance to claim all of these from the third party; they offered no other option or help.
When Joe Public thinks 'legal cover' he means help with a non fault claim.to recover costs from the thrid party and their insurers i.e. getting his car repaired, paying no excess, not losing no claims bonus, and hire car costs while repairs are underway. I don't quite understand your 'hair splitting' Quentin and neither, it would seem, does Admiral.0 -

If you were passed on to Albany then you were in an incident where the liability rested with the third party.
Thus you had no excess to pay to Admiral as they were not dealing with your claim!
Legal cover is not for getting your car repaired by the third party. That is done by yourself or by a claim handler.
No-one is hair splitting.
Just trying to help you understand - as is the contribution from the Albany rep!
Joe Public will understand. If you read what your "legal cover" is for, you will see it is for pursuing for uninsured losses!0 -
Well I beg to differ. From the following website:
http://ask.barclays.co.uk/help/insurance/motor_legal_cover
you see that Legal cover includes Recovery of Excess and help in arranging and claiming back cost of repairs; exactly what I said and would have expected. I would say Albany Assistance did less than 10% of the work involved in this and I had to do over 90% by dealing directly with the TP and their insurers; what Albany should have been doing if they had been bothered.
What is Motor Legal Protection? If you are involved in an accident that is not your fault, you have a legal right to claim back your uninsured losses (losses not covered by your vehicle insurance policy), from the person who caused the accident.
When you take out Legal Cover, we will try to recover these losses for you and should you need to take legal action, we will appoint a solicitor to represent you.
Our Legal Cover provides:- Assistance in obtaining compensation for personal injury and cover for medical expenses.
- Cover for losses resulting from the accident: ie loss of earnings, phone bills and travel costs.
- Recovery of your excess if you are not at fault for the accident.
- Assistance in arranging and claiming back cost of repairs for Third Party Fire & Theft or Third Party policy.
- 24 hour emergency claims line, 365 days a year.
I am interested to hear what other people think 'Legal Cover' includes?0 -

Claiming back UNINSURED losses.
Legal Protection Insurance is a "before the event" insurance product you buy to cover you for legal costs in recovering UNINSURED losses (Things not covered by your policy). There are typically no deductions from your compensation
An accident management company will typically deduct a success free from your compensation0 -
There is a lot of misinformation on here.
If the insurers pass a no-fault claim onto an accident management company, the insured driver does not have to pay anything to the accident management company.
Personally, I think these leeches are just sucking more money out of the system. They couldn't even be bothered to recover my excess (this is not Albany).
They also organise a hire car at double the normal rate and charge £90 each for delivery and collection.
It is not just crash for cash that is bumping up premiums.Je suis sabot...0 -

An accident management company will normally deduct a success fee of circa 25% from personal injury compensation0
