Virgin Media ... Installation fee.

I have been a loyal VM customer for 6 years now.
We moved house recently and VM moved our services across at no charge, which was good of them.
The engineer who did this, said oh, you have a virgin cable ready to go as the previous owners had VM too. Great, but as we wanted the VM box in our room which didn't have the cable the guy kindly drilled holes etc and sorted some new cable out his van; job done.
Happy with the service, I thought about putting virgin in another room, the one I alluded to earlier (that has a working cable ready to go) just need to connect the cable to a box, I can do that.
S I call VM offering them £7 extra per month for, more than likely, a long time. They said that's fine but well charge you £50 for installation. I told them all of the above and said, fair enough you're calling out to my property, but really, all you're going to do is hand over a box, as I can connect it myself.
However, they insist an engineer has to do this; in case there are any problems. I advised I have tested the cable with our box it works fine. I just feel it's a joke. I know previously they wavered an installation fee when we signed up for another room 2 years ago and I didn't even ask! The irony.
Anyway, all it means is they missed out on a long-term deal in securing more money from me. Oh, and they have just sent a letter through the post; ''were increasing our prices by £5 per month'', how kind of them :rotfl:

Adding an extra box (or any other hardware) to the VM network isn't just a case of plugging it in. Signal levels have to be checked and sometimes adjusted (which you can't do yourself) and that is what the £50 is for.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car

This is fair enough as that's what I was thinking. Just a bit annoyed that not much needs to be done really, yet they still charge the full price. Never mind their loss.'Football is part of I, when I play the world wakes up around me' - Bob Marley

You are charged the full price because although he could be there for 5 minutes he could also be there for 2 hours, so not really a bad deal at all because you wouldn't want to pay the hourly rate.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car

That's fair enough then. I just simply cannot afford the 50.00 currently. Never mind.'Football is part of I, when I play the world wakes up around me' - Bob Marley
